It was frightening news that every parent dreads: Hours after the birth of their son, Jimmy Kimmel and his wife were informed by doctors that Billy had a complex heart condition and would need immediate surgery. That life-altering moment for the late-night comic has spurred a heated national debate about the ongoing Republican campaign to repeal the Affordable Care Act. On his show Tuesday night, Kimmel blasted one Republican senator in particular -- Louisiana's Bill Cassidy -- for having "lied right to my face."Kimmel was referring to Cassidy's vow earlier this year to only support a health care legislation if it passed a "Jimmy Kimmel test" -- that a child born with a congenital heart disease like Billy Kimmel would "be able to get everything she or he would need in that first year of life," the senator said on CNN in May. 843

Instagram announced Tuesday they were kicking off National Bullying Prevention Month by testing two new features that combat users writing comments that are considered bullying and harassing. The social media platform said in a blog post that one of the new features would automatically hide similar, negative comments that have already been reported." We know from research that, while people don't want to be exposed to negative comments, they want more transparency into the types of words that are hidden," Instagram said in the blog post.To see the remarks, Instagram says you can tap on "view hidden comments."Instagram added that they've also expanded their existing systems to include "an additional warning when people repeatedly attempt to post potentially offensive comments."Since launching comment warning, the company said they'd seen a shift in user's behaviors when providing real-time feedback as they are writing negative comments. 956

INDIANAPOLIS -- 14 offenders at the Indiana Women's Prison are now enrolled in a year-long program that will teach them how to create web applications. The non-profit "Last Mile" is offering the software engineering training. Governor Eric Holcomb joined members of the first class on Thursday, along with Last Mile board members, including rapper and entrepreneur MC Hammer, to kick off the program."I've been in and out of DOC a few times in my life in the past, so I know firsthand about some of the stumbling blocks that exist. Therefore, when I heard about this program, it just really inspired me to apply, because I want to be a success," said Stacy Jennings, a Last Mile participant.Fifty women applied for the program but only 14 were selected. The idea is to arm the women with the skills needed to knock down barriers and land a job once their time behind bars is done.Business and community partners will offer internships."What I hope to get is a new beginning. The opportunity to be able to support myself, be financially stable and also help others to know it's never too late to keep moving forward," Jennings said. Introduction on coding in the Indiana Women's Prison starts on Monday. The women will be in class about 30 hours per week.Indiana is the second state in the nation to launch "Last Mile."  1365

It's a day Vasti Morris has been anticipating for over two decades.“This is the citizenship packet from immigration, so I became a citizen today,” she exclaims.Morris has been working towards getting her citizenship since she came to America 21 years ago as a refugee from West Africa. “Liberia, we had civil war for a very, very long time, and just somewhere where you didn't have to worry about if there's going to be a war or am I going to eat today,” she says. “So, it was a dream and that dream came true.”But going from refugee to student to U.S. citizen was a difficult journey.Immigration attorney Chirag Patel of Baltimore says the requirements for immigrants are changing almost daily, making the process longer and harder.“There are a lot of restrictions coming into play this fiscal year,” says Patel. After completing the N-400, the application for naturalization, and submitting it to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, the government then takes a deep dive into your history through a long list of questions. Those questions include topics like criminal history, polygamy and deportation.“They really do scrutinize everything,” Patel says. After finally finishing the 20-page application, the screening process begins, and so does the waiting game. This application eventually ends up at a field office, where the applicant waits for an interview and a test.“It could take about a year before you get an interview,” Patel explains. In fact, a year is best case scenario, Patel says. And if you make a mistake on your application, you may have to start over.“We have to make sure we know everything to be able to get through this process properly,” he says.As for that test, Patel says, “You have to study for the civics exam and make sure you know all of the U.S. history and the political questions.”Even if an applicant makes it to the test portion, they could continue to wait up to four months to be approved.“A lot of people don't understand how difficult it is,” Morris says.Morris, who is a nurse studying for her PhD, can now add “American citizen" to her resume, which means she can vote.“I’m so excited,” she says gleefully. “November 6, I'm going to vote.”It’s a day Morris says she’ll never forget, as she reflects on the struggles it took to finally get her citizenship.“I didn't know I was going to be emotional,” she says. “It’s just knowing that this moment is finally here.”It was a drudging path to a dream--one she says was worth every second. 2518

INDIANAPOLIS -- If you owned one of the original PlayStation 3 “phat” consoles that were released back in 2006, you may be owed some money.PCMag.com reports that the original PS3 console – or the “phat” PS3 had the ability to install an alternative operating system but when the smaller “slim” model was released, the operating system functionality was removed because of security concerns. Those changes resulted in a class action lawsuit which dragged on until a settlement was reached in 2016 allowing PS3 owners to claim – but time’s almost up.Anyone who owns a “phat” PS3 still has until April 15 to submit the claim form. To file a claim, a person must have purchased their PS3 from an “authorized retailer” and include their PSN username and PS3 serial number. The offer is only good for 20GB, 40GB, 60GB and 80GB models. To submit your claim click here. 881
