CAMPO (CNS) - One person was killed today in a traffic crash involving an overturned semi-truck on State Route 94, the CHP said.The fatal crash happened at 12:06 p.m. Saturday when a semi-truck was reported on its side in the right shoulder of SR-94 west of Buckman Springs Road with no other vehicles involved, according to a California Highway Patrol incident log.Caltrans San Diego said all lanes of eastbound and westbound SR-94 were blocked and asked travelers to use an alternate route. (KGTV) — Prosecutors Wednesday say two transients accused of a deadly home invasion robbery this week stabbed the victim 50 times in the face, neck, and back.Ian Bushee, 37, and Malissa James, 26, are both accused of breaking into a home in the 1800 block of Outrigger Lane just after midnight Monday. During the break-in the victim, identified as 63-year-old Marjorie Gawitt, was stabbed multiple times.Gawitt was still able to call 911 to report the incident and was conscious and breathing when police arrived. She was taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital, where she died of her injuries.RELATED: Police identify suspects in deadly Carlsbad stabbing, burglaryBushee and James fled the scene in Gawitt's vehicle, according to police. The vehicle was found in San Marcos and the two were arrested in the 4800 block of Park Drive later Monday.Each has been charged with homicide, burglary, conspiracy, and auto theft. Bushee was also charged with accessory after the fact. James also also charged with torture. The pair was already on probation in San Bernardino for residential burglary.Both defendants pleaded not guilty of all charges.Bail was not set for Bushee or James, as they were determined to be a threat to the community.Both face the death penalty. A readiness hearing is scheduled for March 21, and a preliminary hearing is set for March 27. 1377

CHANDLER, Okla. – Investigators say they were able to use DNA from a discarded cigarette butt to crack a 33-year-old cold case.The Oklahoma Attorney General's Office says the cigarette butt and latent prints were collected at a rest stop where Paul Aikman was found brutally stabbed to death in September of 1985.A DNA profile was developed from one of the cigarette butts, but the Lincoln County case eventually went cold.Last year, however, forensic scientists notified agents that they had found a potential DNA hit in the national DNA database. The DNA matched 55-year-old Earl Wilson, who is currently incarcerated in Oklahoma Department of Corrections custody for unrelated crimes.Criminalists say they then matched a print taken from the crime scene to Wilson.Attorney General Mike Hunter has now filed first-degree murder charges against Wilson.“Advances in DNA technology are allowing authorities to take another look at these difficult cases,” said Hunter. “Just because cases go cold doesn’t mean someone shouldn’t be held responsible, even after three decades.”The director of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, Ricky Adams, says Aikman’s family has suffered for 35 years, not know who was responsible for his murder.“35 years have passed, but we have not forgotten about Paul,” said Adams. “Thanks to science and determined police work by OSBI agents and our Cold Case Unit, we are pleased to announce that the suspect in Paul’s murder has been identified.
