SEOUL, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- South Korea plans to launch a joint research with China and Japan on the feasibility of a free trade agreement (FTA) among the three Northeast Asian countries, South Korea's foreign ministry said Wednesday.According to a report by the ministry, the country, which has been seeking an economic integration of the Northeast Asian region by creating favorable conditions for FTAs, will kick off a joint study with the countries, in which government officials, scholars and business representatives will participate.Along with the trilateral FTA, the country will also continue to push for settling separate bilateral trade agreements with China and Japan, the ministry said in the report.Currently, South Korea has free trade agreements with Chile, Singapore and the European Free Trade Association, as well as a similar pact with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.Recently reaching a free trade deal with the European Union, the country also wrapped up its free trade talks with India, settling the so-called comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA) in August.With respect to the free trade deal with the United States, signed in June 2007, both countries are waiting for legislative approval.South Korea is also seeking similar trade deals with Australia, Canada, and Mexico.

BEIJING, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- China will soon clarify the rules and regulations on qualified foreign institutional investors (QFIIs) trading stock index futures in China, the China Daily reported Friday.     "The regulator will work on the policies and regulations on securities companies, mutual funds and QFIIs ... in order to guarantee the smooth launch of index futures," the newspaper quoted Shang Fulin, chairman of China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) as saying at a national conference on securities and futures supervision that ended Thursday.     CSRC will also enhance supervision on securities firms that provide brokerage services for index futures trading and improve the country's cross-market supervision regime, the newspaper quoted Shang as saying.     Foreign institutions may be allowed to trade index futures using a portion of their QFII quota, but details on trading requirements are still unknown, said the newspaper.     At the conference Shang also said that the regulator would introduce margin trading and short selling pilot programs at the appropriate time, according to the newspaper.

The mass movement of people is the largest human migration on the earth.In the southern Guangdong Province, China's business hub, about 100,000 migrant workers are expected to ride motorcycles to go home to neighboring Hunnan, Guizhou and Guangxi provinces, to avoid train jams and high train ticket prices."It will be a tiring 10-hour motorcycle ride, but I can save a lot of money by not taking a train," said a migrant worker surnamed Huang who set off at 6 a.m. Wednesday for his home in neighboring Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.Traffic police set up more than a dozen rest areas along major national highways so workers could warm their hands, drink some hot tea and repair their motorcycles before continuing their trip.Railway stations across the country have been crowded with millions of migrant workers carrying belongings and trying to buy tickets home.
