DEL MAR, San Diego (KGTV)— Dozens of people gathered in front of the Del Mar Fairgrounds Saturday to protest a popular gun show.The weekend after yet another mass school shooting in Santa Fe Texas, the Del Mar Fairgrounds is hosting the Crossroads of the West Gun show. The show has been in Del Mar for many years.While show-goers drove into the parking lot, protestors yelled into the megaphone, “Stop the bloodshed. Close the Gunshow!”Del Mar Mayor, Dwight Worden joined protestors. “Why are we doing this when the community doesn’t want it?“ he asked. Worden has been credited for updating local zoning ordinances, which now ban gun shops, gun shows, or firing weapons in the city of Del Mar.But despite the name, the Del Mar Fairgrounds is owned by the state, so city zoning rules do not apply.It is governed by a Fair Board, which chooses what events they host a year in advance.“Were doing is this kind of demonstration of community concern and we’re working with the Fair Board and state legislature to see if we can change the rules and if not eliminate the gunshots, at least cut back the number,” Mayor Worden said. 10News was filming the protest, when an unrelated cyclist found an in-tact bullet being run over by cars on Via De La Valle.“It’s not a war zone. You don’t need to have ammunition out here on the street,” the cyclist said. Protestors said this is exactly why guns do not need to be in their neighborhood.Across the street, we met gun rights advocates advertising for the show.“It’s like a hobby shop for gun owners,” Nicholas Mielke said. He is an Armorer at Firearms Unknown. “We do enjoy it. It’s a passion of ours.” Mielke said he does not agree with his passion being taken away from him.“People who do serious crimes with other object, I don’t see us banning them either,” Mielke said. “I am a proponent of our constitutional rights. The first amendment is something that I totally respect them for that. At the same time, I don’t have to agree with them either.”The city does get sales tax from items sold at the gun show. But the mayor said he is willing to give that up, if it means having fewer guns on the street.The gun show is on the agenda for the September Fair Board meeting, at which they could take action to discontinue them, after the contracts expire.  2341

DENVER — An Uber driver kicked a passenger out of their vehicle after a passenger who claimed to have COVID-19 took off her mask, started coughing and refused to put it back on.The Uber driver, who asked to remain anonymous, says he picked up the passenger just before 6 a.m. on Tuesday in Denver.He said the passenger got in the car with a mask on, but she started coughing and took it off once she was inside."You know in this day and age, you should probably have a mask, especially since it's the law and you're sick," the driver told the passenger, according to dash camera video.The woman told the driver that she's not sick. But later, the driver asked if she had COVID-19."Yep, sure do," the passenger said."You said you did?" the driver responded. "Is that the truth? Please, it's my life."The woman ignored the driver and said he needed to take her to her destination. The driver then lost his temper and kicked the woman out of his car."I was angry that someone would be so callous and cavalier with my life," the driver said. "At the end of the ride, when she got out, she said, you've got COVID-19."He filed a complaint with Uber and received an email stating that they would reach out to the rider and take appropriate action. But the driver said someone else ordered the ride for the woman."In this instance, I don't know that Uber could have done anything differently," he said. "She had a mask on when she got in. She was doing everything that she was supposed to."Uber policy requires drivers and passengers to wear a mask and adds that drivers can cancel trips if they don't feel comfortable.In response to a request for comment, Uber laid out the policy and procedures it has implemented in the hopes of keeping people safe, which includes denying passengers access to Uber if they repeatedly violate the mask policy."Her lack of caring for another person is costing me my livelihood as well as potentially getting sick and possibly worse," the driver said.He says he began driving for Uber more than a year ago and has picked up and dropped off hundreds of passengers. (KGTV) — While concerts are on hiatus during the pandemic, the Del Mar Fairgrounds will host several "concerts in your car" this fall.Acts including Dirty Heads, DJ Snoopadelic (aka Snoop Dogg), Slightly Stoopid, The Beach Boys, and more will take the stage at Del Mar between Sept. 25 and Nov. 1. Concerts will be held on a high, theater-in-the-round style, four-sided stage to give concertgoers a view of the show from any direction.Ticket prices for vehicles range based on the concert and which color-coded section you select. Many of the concerts start at per car for the furthest section from the stage. Large video screens have been added to each side of the stage.Passengers must not exceed the number of seats and seat belts in a vehicle, according to the concert series' producer. Vehicles will then tune into the audio via their radio, sit back, and enjoy.Tickets must be purchased ahead of time and are online only.Movie screenings are also scheduled between Sept. 22 and 30 for a flat rate of per car, featuring Trolls, Grease, Jurassic Park, The Big Lebowski, and Dirty Dancing. 1124

DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) -- The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is investigating after someone vandalized a park in Del Mar. According to authorities, someone drove onto the grass at Shores Park and did donuts overnight Sunday. Due in part to recent rain, authorities say the incident left extensive damage. The park is used by students of The Winston School and by pet owners as an off-leash park. The City of Del Mar is working to fix the damage but it’s unclear how much the repairs will cost at this time. 522
