Synthetic cannabinoids — often called Spice, K2 or fake weed — have been tied to 38 cases of severe bleeding, including one death, across Chicago and areas in central Illinois. All of those cases required hospitalization related to coughing up blood, blood in the urine, bloody nose, bleeding gums and other symptoms. Three cases tested positive for brodifacoum, or rat poison, according to a statement from the Illinois Department of Public Health on Saturday. Now, state officials are working to identify any common synthetic cannabinoid products related to those cases and to determine where the products were obtained. There are still many questions about the outbreak that need answers."This is the first time we've seen an outbreak of this magnitude in the area," Melaney Arnold, a spokeswoman for the Illinois Department of Public Health, said Monday."We're working with numerous different partners across the city and state as we investigate this outbreak," she said.Synthetic cannabinoids are sold in convenience stores, gas stations, drug paraphernalia shops, novelty stores and even online.Health officials warn that anyone who has a reaction to synthetic cannabinoids immediately should call 911 or be taken to an emergency department. 1267

She has been there for me more than anyone. I really, truly, would not be who I am without her. Today she read my family's story online and out of the goodness of her heart donated to us. She shows up every time I need her. She always has and she always will. I wish that I could express how much it means to me that ANYONE has helped my family over the years, let alone Taylor."Bartell added, "She is the light at the end of the tunnel and is truly the best thing that has ever happened to me. I will never be able to comprehend this. She is a miracle in herself. She just gave my family exactly what we need to carry on. This sounds so composed and so collected but in reality I've been crying for hours and my hands are shaking so hard I can barely type this. Taylor Swift, I love you more than I could ever say. Thank you for this. And for everything else. Forever on your side and thanks for being on mine."CNN has reached out to Swift's representative for comment. 2204

The Arab-American community is on high alert because of a hateful flier that is circulating. The flier promotes April 3 as "Punish a Muslim Day" and encourages violence against Muslims with an escalating point system the more outrageous the act.The fliers originated in London. They were left on the steps of several mosques there. The message is now being spread to the U.S. by way of social media and raising concerns.“We're encouraging the community to be vigilant and to have open lines of communication with local law enforcement. And, if you feel you’re in danger, call law enforcement immediately,” says American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee Legal and Policy Director Abed Ayoub. “ This is outrageous, this can not be happening in 2018. This is a clear sign of xenophobia, Islamophobia, and the unfortunate direction some individuals, not only in the UK, but in the United States are heading.”Ayoub says the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee stands ready to help those in the community who may be harmed through any hateful acts. 1068

Take a peak into Jamya Wiley's world."I'm a varsity cheerleader, I'm on the varsity track team, varsity cross country team, I'm in the national honor society," Wiley said. At 17-years-old, the shy but joyful teenager is on a mission."College is really expensive," she said. From an early age Jamya decided to hit the books and now her years of hard work and weighted 6.1 GPA are paying off.The Fort Pierce, Florida teen has earned more than million in scholarships."It was amazing to know that I was that, I was the top person, that I got the most amount of scholarships out of any student that ever attended Lincoln Park," she told Scripps station WPTV in West Palm Beach, Florida. Jamya said she knew success was in her future, but others couldn't always see it."At honor roll ceremonies, or things where I would get awards, people would come up to me and say, 'wow'. I would appreciate it, but it was kind of like they didn't expect it or it's uncommon," she said. The million in scholarships won't make Jamya take it easy. The Lincoln Park Academy student said she's setting new goals."That all and all encourages me to just do my best and encourage other kids that look like me to do their best so that we can change the story," she said. Jamya has five colleges on her final list and she expects to choose one this weekend. She also recently found out she won the Bill and Melinda Gates full ride scholarship. 1479
