INDIANAPOLIS -- A father died Sunday evening from the injuries he sustained while rescuing his 3-year-old daughter from a vehicle after it rolled into a pond on Indianapolis' north side.Divers and rescuers were called to a pond on Fluvia Terrace after 4:30 p.m. local time. Witnesses told police that the father had stopped to talk to someone and left his 3-year-old in the vehicle. The child hit the gear and shifted the car into reverse, rolling it into the pond. The father and another man ran after the vehicle and were able to pull the child out. She was awake and talking to rescuers, according to Rita Reith with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. The child was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The child's father, who could not swim, was submerged in the water for roughly ten minutes. He was pulled out by rescuers and rushed to the hospital without a pulse. He later regained his pulse but was unable to survive his injuries and died just after 11:30 p.m.He was identified as Anthony Burgess Jr., 24. The bystander who helped rescue the child was also taken to the hospital and treated for hypothermia.   1218

We just want to make sure that every vote gets counted,” said Bob Edwards with Protect The Vote. “I mean, what could be more simple and what more American than that?”Yet, the Trump campaign is suing Pennsylvania on several legal fronts, hoping to block certain mail-in votes, votes that the Pennsylvania Secretary of State said were legally cast by the millions there in the largest numbers ever seen in the state.The potential for multiple legal challenges here in Pennsylvania looms large, especially for ballots received after Election Day, which by state law, can still be counted if they were postmarked on Election Day and are delivered to elections offices by Friday.“This is profoundly important,” Pray said.It is something Kierstyn Zolfo sees, as well.“This is about American principles,” she said, “counting every vote.” 1719

Across the river in Windsor, during the same time, there were only three. “I would think that most Canadians are squeamish around firearms and don’t want any part of it,” said Al Frederick, Windsor’s police chief. “The difference, I think in my view, is the accessibility to firearms,” he said. “We don’t have a culture of people that are eager to carry or seek out to carry a firearm.”In Canada, unlike the U.S., it’s a crime for the average citizen to even walk around with a gun.  But that’s far from the only thing separating the two countries.A first-time gun buyer in the United States can walk into a store and leave with a gun the same day; in Canada, it can take months.The U.S. still allows for some gun purchases without a background check. That’s not the case in Canada, where they’re mandatory for any gun license. “Your file is given to an officer and it’s their job to go through it and prove that you are able to have a license,” said Brian Green of General Guns.While there’s often a push to expand gun rights in the U.S., in Canada there are few leading that fight. As one Canadian told The Now this week, “Guns are a right where you live.
