Some are purchasing at-home test kits online, at no up-front cost.Raechel Kadoya is not a clinician, nor is she at a doctor's office. She is the co-owner of Soichi Sushi, giving herself a COVID-19 test."I want to take advantage of being proactive," Kadoya said as she swabbed her nose.Since the modified re-opening of her restaurant in University Heights, she and her staff have been cautious about coronavirus exposure. That is why she ordered the Pixel by Labcorp at-home COVID-19 test kit for her entire staff."I think that it is my responsibility as a business owner, not only to my staff but to my customers and my family, to make sure that everybody is doing business here safely," Kadoya said.This is the staff's second round of testing. Kadoya said the first one required multiple doctors referrals just to get a drive-through appointment an hour away."We were able to find a place in Lake Elsinore, so we all had to drive up there," Kadoya said.Dr. Abi Olulade, a family medicine physician at Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group, said the accessibility of these at-home tests is a big draw."It definitely is something that is very convenient for consumers," Dr. Olulade said.But she suggested customers do their homework before they order."They should be looking at whether or not the tests that they are using have been FDA authorized, and it's not just some random test that they found on the internet," Dr. Olulade said.As of June 12, 2020, seven at-home COVID-19 test kits have the FDA's emergency use authorization. On Monday, UFCW Local 135 will vote to authorize strikes at Albertsons, Vons and Ralphs. Union representatives say employees have been working without a contract since March. Union president, Todd Walters, says they've met 17 times with the companies asking for better wages, health benefits and pensions. In South Park, the owner of a small grocery store says he hopes the bigger retailers don't enter a strike. David Halabo owns Food Bowl Market with his wife. During the last strike in 2003, Halabo says his business saw an increase in customers for specific items like bread, milk and eggs. Halabo says he's keeping an eye on the negotiations, but says he'll only stock up on extra items if the workers do go on strike. The small business owner says, although is business would benefit, he doesn't want to see a strike happen.Ralphs spokesperson John Votava sent 10News a statement from the company, saying:"We are negotiating in good faith with the union for a fair and balanced contract that is good for our associates, as well as our company. As you know, negotiations are about finding compromise, and this can take time. It houses several 3D printers which each serve a specific purpose."Digital manufacturing can be extremely useful in a combat situation or a disaster zone because we can take this shelter and deploy it to anywhere it's needed. We're able to provide parts that are not readily available, and we're able to get our equipment operational faster," said Staff Sgt. Samuel Margarini.Rather than ordering a part and waiting up to a week, the Marines can re-create a part within 24 hours, improving readiness and operational momentum.3D printing new parts is also cheaper and saves resources. "Since implementation we've had a huge impact on different platforms, we've made parts for trucks, humvees, tanks, and some drones," said Margarini.While only being used in training, for now, shelters like this will eventually be deployed where needed by the Marine Corps. 1098
