COLLEGE AREA (KGTV) - A former San Diego State University student was arrested for arson on Saturday, according to university police.Madelyn Delarosa is reportedly connected to a string of fires within the College Area. Campus police arrested Delarosa on Saturday morning after, they say, she started a fire in a parking garage. The fire reignited Saturday night. Students were evacuated from the Granada on Hardy Apartments both times. Police say Delarosa's crimes started on Thursday, March 14th, around 11 a.m., when a university police officer spotted a parked vehicle on fire near the 5500 block of Hardy Avenue. The officer successfully extinguished the fire, police said. There were no injuries.Officers were then notified of another fire involving the exterior door of an apartment in the 5600 block of Hardy Avenue, according to a police press release. That fire was extinguished before crews arrived and no one was injured.On Friday, March 15th, at around 8:30 a.m., community members notified police of another fire involving an apartment near the 5500 block of Montezuma Road. There were no injuries, and the fire went out on its own. Delarosa was arrested for possession of arson materials, arson of an inhabited structure, and arson to property. Colorado Parks and Wildlife said that a yearling bear that was burned during a wildfire last month is recovering well and should be released in coming weeks.The bear was found in the midst of the East Canyon Fire, which burned thousands of acres in southwest Colorado last month, and rescued by CPW officers, who took it to the Frisco Creek rehab facility for treatment on its singed paws and other injuries.The bear is a yearling born during the winter in 2019, CPW said. CPW Officer Steve McClung said at the time the bear likely got caught in the wildfire and had to run across hot spots. The veterinary manager at Frisco Creek said the bear’s injuries would likely not lead to any permanent damage.On Tuesday, CPW sent out new photos of the bear looking healthier already, and said that Frisco Creek had given good news on the bear’s rehab progress. 861

She's continued to operate despite many challenges along the way.The business took a financial hit, forced to sell their van and take out a loan.But from the wreckage came kindness and love from the community.Shanel's husband Steve worked tirelessly to build a new flower shop.His friends at WeldTec Designs let him use their shop and tools, all while helping him along the way.
