GUATAY, Calif. (KGTV) -- A family in the East County is hoping someone has information about a bicycle accident that happened Saturday afternoon in Guatay, just north of Pine Valley. Ann Larkin says her husband, Warren Larkin, was returning from a bike ride along old Highway 80, and was just feet away from his home, when a good Samaritan found him in the middle of the road. Larkin was airlifted to Sharp Memorial Hopsital with 10 broken ribs, a collapsed lung and a broken clavicle. He doesn't remember anything about the crash.Ann tells 10News she doesn't want to speculate but worries that someone hit her husband on his bike and took off, since hospital staff told her his injuries were more traumatic than just falling off a bike. The Larkin family is now hoping that by sharing their story, they can find someone who witnessed the accident and can provide clues about what happened. 899

George Clooney wrote an open letter to the survivors of the Parkland school shooting, praising them for making him "proud of his country again."The letter was published on Friday in The Guardian's website, where student journalists from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School are guest editing the newspaper's online coverage of the March for Our Lives event on Saturday.In an editor's note published with the letter, Emma Dowd, Lauren Newman and Rebecca Schneid, co-editors-in-chief of the school paper Eagle Eye, said they reached out to a number of politicians and celebrities for interviews, including George Clooney and his wife Amal, who donated 0,000 to support the march."They turned us down on the interview, but we loved the letter George sent us back," the three students wrote.In the letter, Clooney thanked them for what they are doing to promote safer gun laws, saying, "Amal and I stand behind you, in support of you, in gratitude to you.""Amal and I are 100% behind you and will be marching in DC on the 24th, but we both feel very strongly that this is your march. General Motors recently announced that it would be shutting down five car factories in the United States and Canada and cutting 14,000 jobs. GM said at the time that factory workers would be offered jobs at other facilities where production is being increased and on Friday it offered an update on how things are going.Of the jobs GM plans to cut, 2,800 are hourly employees in the United States. These are generally assembly line workers who punch in and out for work each day as opposed to employees who are paid a salary.The automaker announced Friday that 1,100 of those hourly workers have volunteered to transfer to jobs at other factories, such as GM's Flint, Michigan, truck plant where heavy duty pickups are built and the Toledo transmission plant in Toledo, Ohio. Another 1,200 workers in that group are eligible for retirement, the company said.The US plants GM is shutting down are in Michigan, Ohio, and Maryland. These plants mostly made sedans, which have fallen out of favor as customers have shifted toward crossover SUVs and trucks.GM also said last month that Canadian workers would be offered jobs at other plants in that country.In total, the company announced it would cut 6,000 hourly and 8,000 salaried positions. In October, the company offered voluntary buyouts to 18,000 workers.GM CEO Mary Barra has said she wants to save money and reposition the company for future investments in autonomous driving technology and electric cars. German actor Karin Dor, who played Helga Brandt in the James Bond film "You Only Live Twice," died Monday, according to the Associated Press.Dor, 79, played a would-be assassin in the 1967 film. She died in a care home, according to German news agency dpa. Dor had a long career that began when she was 17, according to AP. She played roles in TV series "Ironside" and "The F.B.I." Governor Doug Ducey has announced a plan to give Arizona teachers a 20 percent pay increase by 2020.The developments come after more than a month of protests at the state Capitol and at schools across Arizona that were sparked by earlier teacher discontent in West Virginia and Oklahoma.Ducey’s plan would give teachers a 9 percent increase this year, with another 11 percent to come by 2020.Ducey said in his Thursday press conference the increase would bring the average teacher salary up to ,130 by 2020.Arizona teachers are among the lowest paid in the nation. According to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics, Arizona elementary teachers earned a median wage of ,280 in 2017 and high school teachers ,470, the 3rd and 6th lowest in the nation, respectively.
