CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) — Saturday, a Coronado resident happened upon a pet carrier a cat and kittens abandoned on a sidewalk. The carrier was left near the corner of Ocean Blvd. and Marina Ave., just blocks from Coronado Beach and a dog park, according to Wayne Strickland, who found the animals."Somebody just abandoned them," Strickland said, adding he and his wife found a cat and five kittens inside the carrier. "They thought, 'well there's a place here nobody's going to see and we'll just drop them off and be gone.' It's just wrong."RELATED:140 rats once living in van in Del Mar now up for adoption10News Pet of the WeekEscondido City Council to decide fate of pet alpacasStrickland said he called Coronado Police and waited for an officer to arrive and recover the cats. The animals were taken to PAWS animal rescue. This may not be the first time pets have been abandoned on Coronado's sidewalks. Strickland added that a Facebook user claimed they too found cats abandoned on Alameda Blvd. two months ago."I don't know what the deal is, if people think they can just come over here and Coronado is a good place where they can just abandon their unwanted litter of pets," Strickland said. "But the right thing to do is take them to PAWS or the Humane Society."Just don't leave them out in the sun, in a little box ... it was a terrible thing to see."The San Diego Humane Society says anyone is welcome to make an appointment to surrender an animal or litter. PAWS also welcomes pet owners to relinquish animals if they can no longer care for them. 1564

Coronavirus cases are surging across the US, and the timing for retailers could not be worse. With Thanksgiving and the start of the busy holiday shopping season less than 10 days away, there is obvious concern for retailers headed into the season. But a Washington State University survey shows shoppers find it is important to support businesses during the pandemic. The survey found that 71% of shoppers say shopping in-person is worth it when it's to help local businesses stay open. But it seems like the pandemic is discouraging some Americans from participating in Black Friday sales. The survey found that 76% of shoppers said they would rather do something else on Black Friday than shop, which is a 10% increase from a year ago.Unlike in years past, many major retailers are opting to close on Thanksgiving. The survey found that 71% of shoppers are more likely to support businesses that give their employees the day off on Thanksgiving."The pandemic will have a significant impact on shopping behaviors this year, with more consumers shopping online than ever before," said Joan Giese, CCB clinical associate professor of marketing. "However, despite these changes, we've found that many consumers feel that holiday shopping will provide a sense of normalcy during an unfamiliar holiday season."The National Retail Federation says that the industry has shown some resilience during the pandemic. The organization says that ,200 economic impact payments helped keep the industry afloat during the pandemic.“Strong growth in retail sales during the last few months points to the resiliency of consumers even in this disruptive pandemic environment,” National Retail Federation chief economist Jack Kleinhenz said. “Taking in all the evidence available, the U.S. economic recovery has progressed more quickly than generally expected.” 1850

CINCINNATI, Ohio — He was wrong and then he was wronged: That’s how the parents of a 14-year-old jolted by a Taser view the 2017 incident that left their son with a broken clavicle and a delinquency finding in juvenile court. After reviewing the case, a Cincinnati Police Sergeant concluded the use of force complied with department policies. The teen “actively resisted” and “fled on foot,” injuring his clavicle by falling down a hill before being hit with the stun gun, according to the department’s incident report.Diondre Lee agreed his son should not have run. But he was also sickened by an officer’s casual description of his son’s tumble five minutes after it happened.“Yeah, he bounced,” Officer Kevin Kroger said on police body camera. “He hit real hard.”Antionette Lee fought back tears as she watched video of her son’s arrest.“He was treated like he just didn’t matter,” she said “They told us something totally different than what we saw. And I’m pissed.” 977
