Tucked away in the small town of Eaton, Colorado, there’s a time machine capsule dedicated to one type of technology, and one man who has dedicated 35 years of his life to this collection. “My museum is called Lee Maxwell’s Old and Unusual Collection,” said 89-year-old Lee Maxwell. “I took up this hobby about 35 years ago, and it’s turned into an obsession. My collection is unusual that’s for sure.”Maxwell collects washing machines. He is the owner of the only washing machine museum in the country. “Why? Well a lot of people ask me why,” Maxwell said. “Since I’m not a golfer or fisherman, and I don’t like to bungee jump, I couldn’t afford corvettes, so I chose washing machines.”Maxwell said he owns a washing machine from every state, some dating back to the 1800s. “Over 1,500 machines,” Maxwell said. “The number is kind of a secret though, because I told my wife, Barbara, I would stop at a thousand. Keep that under your breath. 1,500 machines, 1,500 stories.” For 35 years, Maxwell traveled the country collecting washing machines to bring back to his home of 17 acres. “I spent a lot of time here the last 35 years,” Maxwell said, while standing in his warehouse full of washing machines. “I have to find a good home for it. There are some folks around the US that are interested in it. I want to find a home close to northern Colorado. I’m eighty-nine years old now, I would like to go eleven more years to really see it blossom.” Maxwell said he has a few organizations interested, but he did not want to give any more details. He hopes it will continue to grow as the largest washing machine museum in the country. “There are three attributes you have to have to be a washing machine collector,” Maxwell said. “You have to have space, you have to be insane, and you have to have a saint for a wife. And I got all three.” 1851

The Supreme Court said Friday it will consider whether the House and a New York prosecutor can subpoena President Donald Trump's longtime accounting firm and banks for his financial records, two monumental disputes concerning separation of powers and Trump's broad claims of immunity that will be decided in the heart of the presidential campaign. 359

The Univision network said six of its staffers, including veteran anchorman Jorge Ramos, were briefly detained at the presidential palace in Caracas, Venezuela, on Monday.Ramos and the crew members were released a little less than three hours after the episode began.Daniel Coronell, Univision's president of news, tweeted that "Jorge Ramos and his team have been released and are on route to their hotel."In Caracas, the Venezuelan National Union of the Press Workers also confirmed that "the Univision team has been freed."The network said Ramos was in Caracas to interview embattled Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. Univision spokesman Jose Zamora said Maduro objected to Ramos' questions."Very shortly into the interview, Maduro didn't like the line of questioning, and they stopped the interview," Zamora said.He said government aides confiscated the network's equipment.Univision's news executives were able to find out what happened, he said, because "Jorge managed to call us." But "in the middle of the call, they took his phone away."Univision is the leading Spanish-language television network in the United States, with millions of loyal viewers. The network immediately contacted the US State Department. Kimberly Breier, the Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, tweeted out, "We insist on their immediate release; the world is watching."Univision also went public with the news about its crew."Attention: A @Univision team, headed by @jorgeramosnews, is being arbitrarily detained at the Miraflores Palace in Caracas," the network tweeted out on Monday evening.Groups like Human Rights Watch called for the release of the journalists.Venezuelan government officials did not immediately respond to CNN's requests for comment. The Venezuelan government had set up multiple interviews with American journalists amid the country's deepening crisis. In one of the other interviews on Monday, Maduro told ABC's Tom Llamas that the US government — which is backing opposition leader Juan Guaido — is "trying to fabricate a crisis to justify political escalation and a military intervention in Venezuela to bring a war to South America."ABC published excerpts from the interview on Monday evening. The Univision interview was also set to take place on Monday. Zamora said it was originally scheduled for 2:30 p.m., but kept being postponed. The taping finally started at 7 p.m., but ended within minutes.According to Coronell, the material is now in the hands of government officials. The episode unfolded on the same day that US Vice President Mike Pence met with Guaido in Bogota, Colombia. 2634

The Trump administration is headed for a budget clash with Congress, with calls for deep domestic spending cuts that lawmakers are likely to ignore as the nation's debt reaches record levels. On Monday, President Donald Trump is set to deliver his first budget roadmap under a divided government with Speaker Nancy Pelosi at the helm of a Democratic-controlled House, and he is expected to face fierce resistance to severe proposed cuts on education, health and environmental protections. The White House is proposing a 5% cut across federal agencies, except for defense spending, as part of its budget plan for fiscal year 2020, which begins on October 1. The proposed cuts come just as Congress will need to decide -- yet again this year -- whether to lift spending caps put into place by law in 2011.A White House official confirms Trump will ask for .6 billion for a border wall, and an additional .6 billion in military construction funds to pay back monies that the administration hopes will be spent this year that the President redirected by executive authority.Congress holds the purse strings of what the government is willing to spend, and Democrats demonstrated their ability to stay unified during the partial government shutdown.House Financial Services Chairwoman Maxine Waters, a California Democrat, said at a hearing last week that she would fight to ensure robust funding for critical programs overseen by the committee, including reversing steps by the administration to weaken the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau."The Trump administration has also consistently put forth budget proposals that make massive cuts to programs that protect the nation's most vulnerable families," Waters said.Trump has previously proposed deep spending cuts on domestic programs as well as entitlement programs like Medicare and Social Security every year of his presidency, and each time Congress has ignored them. The President's proposal, however, may offer clues about the President's desire to get funding for a border wall and whether he will earmark money to repair the nation's roads and bridges as part of an infrastructure deal. The White House official notes that the forthcoming request for wall funding is different than in previous years when the White House asked for wall money from just one funding source: the Department of Homeland Security (more specifically, CBP). This year, the White House will ask for billion from Customs and Border Protection, but will also request .6 billion in military construction funds from the Pentagon. In addition, the budget contains a request for another .6 billion in military construction funds -- but these would be used to "backfill" what the administration hopes to spend this year as a result of the emergency declaration. In other words, the White House is requesting money to pay back the funds that Trump redirected with executive authority, and officials are not counting that sum in the topline number they say they're requesting for the wall (at least .6 billion). The amount of the wall request was 3089

The White House has unveiled it's 2019 Christmas decorations.News media were given a preview very early Monday morning.First Lady Melania Trump announced "The Spirit of America" as the theme in a late Sunday tweet.Mrs. Trump says in the tweet that "'The Spirit of America' is shining in the @White House!" She adds that she's "delighted to share this beautiful exhibit of patriotism for all to see."In a description released by the White House, the East Room decorations include four star-spangled trees with stars and cascading ribbons. Perched at the top of each are gilded eagles and features of the American flag. For the 52nd year the White House Crèche is on display. The Green Room showcases classic Christmas tales and the Red Room, decorated with children's games. The official White House Christmas tree takes its place in the Blue Room measuring over 18 feet tall. Blossoming with handmade paper flowers, the décor on the Blue Room tree pays homage to the distinctive floral emblem of every state and territory. The Gingerbread House features the South Portico of the White House and landmarks from across the country, including the Golden Gate Bridge, Space Needle, Mount Rushmore, the Alamo, Gateway Arch, Liberty Bell, and Statue of Liberty. The White House pastry team carefully constructed this masterpiece out of 200 lbs. of gingerbread dough, 125 lbs. of pastillage dough, 35 lbs. of chocolate, and 25 lbs. of royal icing. The Grand Foyer and Cross Hall are decorated as a winter garden, filled with 22 evergreens, 14 golden magnolia topiaries, 10 floral urns, and dusted with fresh-fallen snow. This is the third Christmas the Trump family has celebrated in the White House. 1698
