BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States on Tuesday underlined in a joint statement their commitment to the eventual realization of a world free of nuclear weapons.    They also reiterated their opposition to the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in the statement issued after talks between Chinese President Hu Jintao and visiting U.S. President Barack Obama.     The two sides will jointly uphold the international nuclear non-proliferation regime, and agreed to enhance non-proliferation cooperation on the basis of mutual respect and equality, the statement said.     They promised to work together for a successful Review Conference of Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons in 2010, and committed to pursue ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) as soon as possible.     The joint statement said the two countries stand ready to strengthen communication and cooperation in nuclear safety and security and in combating nuclear terrorism.     China attaches importance to the U.S. initiative to hold a nuclear security summit in April 2010 and will actively participate in the preparations for the summit, according to the joint statement.

SHANGHAI, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- President Barack Obama said here on Monday the United States would continue to fully support the one-China policy, and would be very pleased to see the improving cross-strait relationship.    "I have been clear in the past the United States supports a one-China policy. We do not want change that policy or approach," he said during a dialogue with Chinese youth in the nation's economic hub Shanghai.     "I am very pleased with the reduction of tensions and improvement of the cross-strait relations," he said. BRISBANE, Australia, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang said here Saturday that China and Australia can lift their bilateral relationship to a new level through a strengthened dialogue and increased cooperation between the two trading partners.     Li spoke during a meeting with Anna Bligh, the premier of Australia's state of Queensland.     The vice premier said that during his visit to Australia a consensus was reached to enhance the Chinese-Australian friendship, to deepen mutual beneficial cooperation, and to respect and care for each other's core interests and important concerns.     He also said the two sides released a joint declaration and signed a number of cooperation agreements. BEIJING, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Beijing saw smooth flow of traffic Monday, the first workday of 2010, after a snow storm Sunday caused traffic breakdown in the national capital.     The city's bus and subway services went smoothly on Monday, with no gridlock and serious traffic accidents reported, according to the Beijing Traffic Management Bureau.     During the peak hours on Monday morning, the Beijing Subway Operating Company dispatched 20 additional subway trains to ease the passenger flow.     The early bus of all routes started off on time in the morning, according to the Beijing Public Transport Holdings.     Most of the bus services ran smoothly, while only 19 lines leading suburban mountainous areas were suspended, it said.     From 9:00 p.m. Saturday to 8:00 a.m. Monday, more than 20,000 sanitation workers were dispatched to clean the snow in the city's main roads with 15,710 tonnes of snow-dissolving agent, said Zhang Zhiqiang, an official with the Beijing Environmental Sanitation Group Co., Ltd.     By 9:00 a.m., all expressways in Beijing reopened to traffic, while some national and municipal highways were shut down due to the slippery road conditions.     The vehicle flow in Beijing was reduced Monday after authorities announced on Sunday that classes in primary and middle schools would be suspended on Monday, and urged institutions and companies to stagger their work time.     However, transportation in eastern Shandong Province and northern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region was seriously affected by the heavy snow.     By 9:30 a.m. Monday, many expressways in Shangdong were closed and 19 flights cancelled in the Yantai International Airport.     In Inner Mongolia, 13 trains were delayed Monday in Hohhot, the regional capital, said the Hohhot railway authorities.     The No. 1820 train, carrying more than 800 passengers, started off at 5:10 p.m. after being stranded for 12 hours, they said.
