ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) — First it was toilet paper and now there are reports of a shortage of outdoor recreational equipment, specifically kayaks. But one local business owner says San Diego is ready to meet the demand during the COVID pandemic. Bruce Damon, the owner of Nomad Ventures in Escondido, says after a 10-week shutdown they are back serving outdoor enthusiasts."We're just hoping that people can get out and enjoy themselves safely, and kayaking was one of the first things that I understood was considered a safe endeavor," says Damon.In what came as a surprise to Damon, he saw media reports saying kayaks were in short supply due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That hasn't been the case at Nomad Ventures"We've had the busiest year as far as I can remember in terms of kayaks selling a lot of kayaks here," Damon said. So to say there is a kayak shortage, at least in San Diego, would not be accurate as far as Damon is concerned."Our shutdown was right when we were at complete inventory," Damon said. "Stock levels were high, and when we reopened, we had stock."He was quite alarmed when customers were steered towards shopping online when his shop was completely full of outdoor products. "We have back stock in storage units that we pull from to restock the store. We just picked up a new load of five kayaks, so we are fortunate that we have product," Damon said.His message to customers in the market for a new kayak is quite simple, shop small business and local."We've been in business 40 years, so we felt it was important to get our message out. (KGTV) — In a display of solidarity with protesters, Escondido officers were seen taking a knee with protesters during a demonstration against police violence on Monday.Photos showed the officers alongside protesters demonstrating against racism, police brutality, and calling for justice for George Floyd, a black man who died in police custody in Minneapolis.Long-time resident Vanessa Reyes attended the demonstration which happened outside of Escondido Police Department headquarters. She captured the profound moment in a series of photos she later shared with 10News.“It was very emotional, it was very eye opening for me.”The mother of four said she wanted to document the protests for her children, ages 7- to 22-years-old. Not knowing what to expect, she decided to keep her children home while she snapped images of the demonstration.“I went out there to support the black community and take pictures because I really want to have pictures for my kids to show them this is going to be history, this is real, this is what’s going on.”Reyes described the demonstration as peaceful and emotional, though some times rowdy.“The younger kids, maybe like the 20-25 year old’s, they were very, very involved and wanted to be heard, and the chief of police was willing to let them be heard," said Reyes. “Everybody just wanted to be heard and there was so much emotion and the Escondido Police sat there and listened.”At one point during the protest, Reyes said the crowd, comprised of people of various races, moved towards the police skirmish line. “When we first got there all the officers were across the street, then all of a sudden the protesters moved towards the officers," said Reyes.The tense situation was de-escalated when demonstrators struck a conversation with an officer.“A group of protesters got together and asked the officers if they wanted to take a knee and have a moment of silence for George Floyd and they didn’t hesitate.”Reyes began taking photos to capture one of San Diego's most powerful moments of these demonstrations that saw a weekend marred by violence and riots across the county.The officers, dressed only in their regular uniforms, joined the crowd.“That moment was extremely emotional. You could tell that they [officers] were very genuine and you could tell they really want to make peace and everything better for us.”Unlike some of the chaotic confrontations witnessed in other parts of the country, Reyes said demonstrators and police officers were respectful of each other, and that the police chief was actively encouraging the crowd to share their voice.“Officers tried to ask everybody what could they do.”The scene was similar to a display caught on Sunday in downtown San Diego, where protesters exchanged fist bumps and handshakes with officers. Other moments of unity between police and demonstrators have been captured around the nation.In a statement, an Escondido Police officer said:"Last night I, as well the citizens of Escondido were witness to a peaceful, passionate, justified protest. Experts say a scammer cloning a phone number can happen to anyone and a Nebraska woman says her number is being used to try and solicit others.Caller ID "spoofing" is used to disguise someone's identity and is usually to trick a person into giving away personal information for criminal activity, or money. Now, many in Omaha are seeing local numbers including the same prefix show up on a call.Evy Akpan says recently she was receiving multiple calls a day from people who said she had called them several times when she hadn't called them at all."If I'm trying to live my life, and I'm getting phone calls throughout the day, and my phone is constantly ringing for a scam purpose, it's frustrating," Akpan said. "And also just receiving these voicemails of upset people chewing me a new one, and I'm like, 'I'm not calling you!' "The Better Business Bureau of Nebraska, SW Iowa, South Dakota, and Great Plains Kansas said scammers usually only clone a person's number for 24-48 hours then move on to new ones. The Federal Communications Commission says it's best not to pick up a call from an unknown number because if you do, criminals will know your number is active."Really, it's important not to trust the caller ID. The fact that it says it's coming from an area code that we're not familiar with doesn't really mean anything these days," said Jim Hegarty, CEO of the BBB Nebraska.The FCC adds that if your number's been spoofed, there's not much you can do other than change your voicemail to let people know of the situation. 1557

Fans of Nutella are going absolutely nuts after the brand changed its recipe.Nutella said in a post on its German Facebook page on Tuesday that it was "fine tuning" its recipe. It said the addition of more powdered milk increased the spread's sugar content.The brand's U.S. Twitter page also confirmed the recipe had changed.
