SOLANA BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) -- A new outdoor art museum showcasing art from around the world is opening in Solana Beach. Called the Art Alley on Cedros, the museum is free to the public. The grand opening of the new alley will be held during the last Cedros Stroll of the summer.The first exhibit is surf-themed and will feature 12 surfboards designed by various international artists displayed along the alley. The entire museum was designed to withstand the elements and, after its opening, will never close. SOLANA BEACH (CNS) - A man was arrested Thursday after entering a North County bank, telling everyone inside to get on the floor, announcing that he was robbing the premises and directing workers to make a 911 call to report the crime-in-process. The odd robbery scare at the Wells Fargo branch office in the 200 block of Santa Helena in Solana Beach began just after 9 a.m., according to sheriff's officials. The perpetrator -- a thin, roughly 6-foot man who appeared to be in his 30s, wearing a black hooded jacket with the cowl pulled up over his head -- entered the bank minutes after it opened and promptly made his series of demands, Lt. Karla Menzies said. He issued no threats of violence and displayed no weapons during the takeover, the lieutenant said. When deputies arrived a short time later, they found the self-described robber inside with his hands in the air, Menzies said. The man, whose name was not immediately available, surrendered without incident and was taken to Vista Detention Center to be booked on suspicion of attempted robbery. SPRING VALLEY (CNS) - A juvenile driving a stolen minivan led deputies on a 15-minute East County road chase Tuesday before bailing out of the still- rolling vehicle near Sweetwater Reservoir and making a failed attempt to escape on foot.The chase began shortly after 8:30 a.m., when a deputy spotted the occupied van in the area of Bancroft Drive and Troy Street in Spring Valley and determined that it had been reported missing by the operators of a group home in the area on Monday, according to sheriff's officials.When the deputy tried to pull him over, the boy behind the wheel of the stolen vehicle drove off and refused to yield, Sgt. Scott Roller said. The youth sped to the south and east over various streets before jumping out of the moving vehicle in a school zone on La Presa Avenue and fleeing on foot.The suddenly driverless minivan continued traveling down the street briefly, then crashed to a halt against a jersey wall.
