But it's a mixed bag when you break down new statistics today from SANDAG.The good news is that property crime is down so far in 2017.Car thefts are down by 13-percent while burglary and larceny are each down by 9-percents for violent crime, it really depends on where you live.SANDAG breaks down the numbers into 17 jurisdictions. Violent crime is up this year in 12 of them.Those communities with a rise in crime were Carlsbad, Chula Vista, Oceanside, Encinitas, Lemon Grove, San Marcos, Santee, Vista, Fallbrook, Lakeside, Spring Valley, and Valley Center.Homicides are down 14-percent and rape is down by three. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Nestled off of Camino Del Rio West in the Midway District, the Body Shop sits between a Navis Pack and Ship site and the "Les Girls" adult entertainment club on Riley Street. The Body Shop, a strip club at 3776 Riley Street, welcomed customers for five decades before it closed last December. This week, Rock Church announced they'll be moving in. Rock Church has five campuses across San Diego County. They have a school and now, they have plans for the property in the Midway District. They told 10News the purchase is about more than repurposing a strip club - it's about transforming the neighborhood. "We thought it was a great idea because we know the pain that goes on in that building," said Miles McPherson, pastor at Rock Church. "Not just the women, but the men who go there and their families.”The church’s main campus on Rosecrans is roughly a mile and a half away from the new property. "We don’t know what we're going to do with the building, we just know what it won’t be used for," McPherson said. For decades, parents have explained to their kids why there's a huge sign that says 'nude girls' in their neighborhood, he said. Soon, it won't be necessary."It would be nice to put 'Rock Church' on top of that billboard, but that's another step," he said. "We’ll get to that. But you know the people in that community have been looking at that building for 50 years, and hopefully we can put something more positive in that building.”In addition to taking over the building, McPherson said the church plans to do outreach in the community. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - More than 830 pounds of narcotics, over .5 million and 20 fugitives were captured over the weekend in San Diego and Imperial Valley counties.Border officials said the seizures occurred from Friday, March 9 to Sunday, March 11. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One of the first questions San Diegans had after a 6.4-magnitude earthquake hit Southern California: Where was the alert?Exactly one week ago, San Diego phones buzzed in unison for a test of California’s Earthquake Early Warning System, ShakeAlert. The system aims to help alert locals seconds before an earthquake hits to find shelter.Thursday, no alert went out when San Diego felt shaking.RELATED: 6.4-magnitude earthquake rattles July 4th for Southern CaliforniaThe San Diego County Office of Emergency Services says the alert system is still in the testing phase. Currently, the Governor's Office of Emergency Services is evaluating the data collected from the June 27 test.The state hopes to set up the system in the future in the same way Amber Alerts are sent out regionally. Before that can happen, the county says they need to make sure the system works fast enough to alert residents, the county says.Many San Diegans, however, say they didn't even receive the test message last week. For them, the county asks for feedback to work out the bugs in the system. Those individuals can fill out an online survey here .Los Angeles County residents already receive a similar alert, but many complained they weren't alerted Thursday either. Los Angeles city officials say their alert didn't go off because the earthquake wasn't recorded above a 5.0-magnitude shake within Los Angeles County. Officials said they now plan to lower that threshold.USGS seismologist Robert Graves told the Associated Press that the state's new system detected Thursday's earthquake, providing 48 seconds of warning to Caltech's seismology lab in Pasadena, and adding "there were no glitches" in the system. 1717

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - New restrictions going into effect Sunday night limit restaurants, wineries and breweries to take out only, making them brace for the next three weeks.The new stay-at-home orders mandated by Governor Gavin Newsom were triggered due to the rapidly increasing number of hospitalizations from the coronavirus.Mike Hess, Chief Brewing Officer at Mike Hess Brewing, estimated this will be the fifth time his breweries have to shut down across San Diego."I've kinda lost track of the dates and times, I know we're just doing what we need to do to keep going," he said.Each time, he's reinvented the business, making hand sanitizer, selling canned beer to go and adding COVID-19 safety measures in order to reopen."This is tough, it's very hard on a business. It's very hard to manage a business that is reliant on a certain amount of cash flow and business operations," Hess said.Starting Monday they'll shut down again. This time he's transforming some of their outdoor seating at their Imperial Beach location into a drive through lane."People can cruise right in to that orange cone barricade, go right around Elm, right back up Ocean and pick up their tacos and beer right out of the back door which is right where the food comes out of the kitchen anyway so it's going to be piping hot," he said.Hess added the North Park location will also have a drive through option. He hopes they see enough take out customers in the next three weeks, the length the new orders last, to avoid any furloughs this holiday season."We have 80 families that work for Mike Hess Brewing and they're relying on us for a paycheck so the shut down is having a big effect," he said.Hess is frustrated the new restrictions target the restaurant industry when retail is allowed to open in a limited capacity.He is still holding a "Joy Drive" for the Jesse Rees Foundation, donating 25% of gift card sales through December 21st. 1927
