Governor Doug Ducey has announced a plan to give Arizona teachers a 20 percent pay increase by 2020.The developments come after more than a month of protests at the state Capitol and at schools across Arizona that were sparked by earlier teacher discontent in West Virginia and Oklahoma.Ducey’s plan would give teachers a 9 percent increase this year, with another 11 percent to come by 2020.Ducey said in his Thursday press conference the increase would bring the average teacher salary up to ,130 by 2020.Arizona teachers are among the lowest paid in the nation. (AP) — A magnitude-4.7 earthquake has struck a wilderness area of central California.The U.S. Geological Survey says the temblor occurred at 12:42 p.m. Tuesday and was centered about 16 miles (25 kilometers) southeast of Hollister. The quake occurred at a depth of 6 miles (9.6 kilometers).The epicenter area is in a rugged mountain range, with agricultural areas to the west.Late Monday, the San Francisco Bay Area was rattled by a magnitude 4.5 earthquake.That quake was center near Pleasant Hill, northeast of Oakland but was felt widely.More than 67,000 people posted to the U.S. Geological Survey's citizen reporting web page.Veteran seismologist Lucy Jones says the two quakes are too far apart to be related. 741

FROSTPROOF, Fla. — The triple murder of three close friends is under investigation in Florida.The Polk County Sheriff's Office says around 10:06 p.m. on Friday, one victim, 27-year-old Rollins, called his dad for help. Officials say his dad knew Brandon had gone fishing with two of his friends, 30-year-old Keven Springfield and 23-year-old Damion Tillman, who were also victims. All were from Frostproof.Brandon's dad drove to the unincorporated area of Frostproof and when he arrived, he found his son barely alive, officials say. The other two friends were found dead.Brandon's dad drove to a close-by gas station to call 911.When first responders arrived, all three victims were found dead. Officials said they appeared to have been beaten and shot."This is a horrific scene. I've been to a lot of murder scenes in my life and this ranks among the worst I've been to," said Sheriff Grady Judd.According to families, the three men were best friends and knew each other for years. They said the three men were fishing on land, not in a boat."We are seeking leads. We need help so we can solve this crime sooner rather than later because there are one or more, we suspected more, murderers, that killed three people in a quiet community," said Sheriff Judd.The sheriff's office is asking for the public's help on any information on the incident.
