DALLAS (AP) — Southwest Airlines says its workers must take pay cuts or face furloughs next year. Chairman and CEO Gary Kelly said Monday that unless the federal government gives airlines more money, Southwest will have to sharply cut spending to avoid losing billions of dollars every quarter until a coronavirus vaccine is widely available. Air travel is down nearly 70% from a year ago.“We would have to wipe out a large swath of salaries, wages and benefits to match the low traffic levels to have any hope of just breaking even,” Kelly said in a video to employees.Kelly says he won't take a base salary through 2021, and nonunion workers will face 10% pay cuts in January. DEL MAR — The coronavirus eliminated the 2020 San Diego County fair, and racing season went on with no fans. Now, the state-owned fairgrounds has laid off more than half of its staff and has asked Sacramento for million in bailout money."They need a new vision for the future and they need it desperately to solve their financial problems," said Del Mar Councilman Dwight Worden.Worden said affordable housing is an ideal solution. The city wants to team up with the fairgrounds to build upwards of 51 affordable homes on the property. On Monday, the council could approve a formal memo to submit to the fairgrounds on its vision.As it stands, Del Mar has no affordable housing and as such faces steep state penalties - including fines, lawsuits, and even loss of development control."In a place like Del Mar, where the ground costs a million dollars an inch, anything where we have to buy land is immediately not affordable," Worden said.The idea to put housing has been talked about for years. Most recently, in June, a Los Angeles-based developer proposed to put modular homes on the property to temporarily shelter the homeless during the outbreak, but pulled the project after community opposition."That was a hornet's nest," Worden said. "We've been telling them 'look, let's work on this long term affordable housing, where we get credit and we know how to help you do that successfully.'"Worden said this would be different, because it would give people such as fairgrounds workers, emergency medical technicians, teachers, and restaurant servers to permanently live close to where they work.Worden says the city has picked out five locations on the fairgrounds, mostly around the perimeter.The cost is still not clear, but Del Mar may ask Solana Beach the city of San Diego to participate, and see if they can get partial credit for their housing requirements.Del Mar must built 163 new housing units by 2029. DELAWARE COUNTY, Pa. — A mother was arrested in Ohio for allegedly creating child pornography of her own 3-year-old daughter, the Pennsylvania Attorney General's office announced on Tuesday.Kayla Parker, 26, of Dayton, Ohio, was charged with felonies including the sexual abuse and exploitation of children, endangering the welfare of a child and indecent assault.According to the office of Attorney General Josh Shapiro, Parker lived with her ex-boyfriend, David Carbonaro approximately four years ago. During that time, Parker committed inappropriate sexual acts with her daughter, the 3-year-old victim, including the creation of child pornography.“This is an egregious case – a mother who preyed upon and sexually abused her own three-year-old daughter,” Attorney General Josh Shapiro said.When investigators executed a search warrant at Carbonaro’s residence in July, they reportedly found hundreds of images and several video files of a 3-year-old girl in various stages of undress. At least one file depicted an adult female’s hand reaching inside the victim’s underwear.Carbonaro identified the victim and her mother to agents.According to a probable cause affidavit, Parker told investigators that, "Carbonaro would watch her abusing the victim and often masturbate during the act."During that same interview, Parker allegedly told investigators that, on numerous occasions during the time she lived with Carbonaro, she undressed and escorted her 3-year-old daughter to a bedroom, shut the door and left her alone with Carbonaro. Carbonaro was arrested in July, following the raid at his residence. He is currently awaiting trial in Delaware County for the possession, production and distribution of child pornography.Parker was recently arrested in Ohio and was extradited to Pennsylvania, where bail was set at million, pending a preliminary hearing on October 26. 1926
