SAN DIEGO (CNS) - People who visited the Lucky Lady Casino in San Diego on weekends over a six-month period ending in late September may have been exposed to tuberculosis, county health officials reported Tuesday.The Health and Human Services Agency is working with the casino to inform patrons and staff who may have been exposed between Feb. 23 and Sept. 30, said county spokesman Jose A. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - SeaWorld San Diego announced Friday that it reached a milestone in the construction of its ``dive'' roller coaster by installing the ride's highest section of track 153 feet above ground. The ``topping-out'' ceremony included a crane placing an American flag at the ride's highest section. The ride, slated to open next summer, is being built adjacent to the Journey to Atlantis attraction, on what had previously been a parking lot. Construction on the ride, advertised as the tallest, fastest and longest such coaster in the state, began in August. The park originally announced the ride in January with the name ``Mako'' after the endangered shark species, which is considered the fastest shark in the world. Park officials announced its new name, Emperor, last month, saying it would reflect the ability of emperor penguins to dive to depths of 1,800 feet in the waters of their native Antarctica. After the 153-foot climb, Emperor will plunge back down 143 feet while reaching speeds of more than 60 mph, according to SeaWorld. The ride will include nearly 2,500 feet of track, ``floorless'' cars that will hold 18 riders in three six-person rows and penguin conservation and awareness elements through a partnership with Penguins International. The ride is being built by Swiss roller coaster manufacturer Bolliger & Mabillard Consulting Engineers. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Starting today, the Port of San Diego is conducting an over-water lighting field test as part of the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge Lighting Project -- the next step in a process to artistically illuminate a portion of the 2.1-mile bridge span from the Coronado shoreline to Harbor Drive in San Diego.The testing is scheduled to occur between 6:15 p.m. and midnight from Sunday to Saturday, Nov. 14. To allow the testing, 170 computer-programmable color LED luminaires and controllers are being temporarily installed on three of the tallest columns near the center of the bridge span.Each night during the live technical testing, lighting in different colors, combinations, sequencing and arrangements will be intermittently visible on the three columns. Occasional periods of darkness will occur as other aspects of the installation are tested.``This bridge lighting test provides San Diego a unique opportunity to see what's possible and how the infusion of technology and art can make people feel connected to, and inspired by, our beautiful waterfront,'' said Marshall Merrifield, port commissioner. ``Our goal is to ignite the imaginations of every person in the San Diego region, and after years of dedicated time to the project, bring forward a viable, beautiful addition to the nighttime skyline.''The week of technical testing is intended to evaluate the lighting design that has been developed to date, its technical functionality and its ability to effectively display the range of artistic color lighting as originally envisioned.During the testing, the project team and design consultants will take measurements, collect data, and identify adjustments that may be necessary as the project's design development continues. After the first test was complete, the Port received a Coastal Development Permit in October 2019 for the overwater testing allowing the Port to move forward with this upcoming test.Following a worldwide competition, an international design team consisting of lead artist Peter Fink of Studio Fink LTD, architectural lighting specialists Speirs+Major Associates and Buro Happold Consulting Engineers, was selected to design the artistic lighting concept for the project.As a follow-up to the lighting tests, the Port plans to invite community members to share their input and have conversations with the design group to ensure communication and collaboration and to further develop a signature, bay-spanning illuminated artwork for the region.In addition to public input, and once the upcoming lighting test is complete, the Port will initiate plans to proceed with environmental review as the next step of the project. 3074

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego County will remain in the red tier of the state's four-tier COVID-19 reopening plan for at least another week, the California Department of Public Health confirmed Tuesday.The county's state-calculated, adjusted case rate is 6.8 daily infections per 100,000 residents, up from 6.7 the previous week. The unadjusted case rate was 7.2, up from 7 last Tuesday. The adjusted rate is due to San Diego County's high volume of tests, but still leaves the county on the precipice of the state's most restrictive tier -- purple.The testing positivity percentage is 3%, considerably less than last week, and that number would qualify for the third -- or orange -- tier.To remain in the red tier, the county must continue to have an adjusted case rate of less than 7.0 per 100,000 residents and a testing positivity percentage of less than 5%.A new metric the state released Tuesday is the health equity metric, which finds the positivity rate of the county's least healthy quartile. San Diego County's health equity is 5.7%, almost double the county's average positive testing percentage.According to the state guidelines, the health equity will measure socially determined health circumstances, such as a community's transportation, housing, access to health care and testing, access to healthy food and parks.Neighborhoods are grouped and scored by U.S. Census tracts on the Healthy Places Index, https://healthyplacesindex.org/. The number of deaths in the region from the illness remains at 826.Of the 7,573 tests reported Monday, 3% returned positive, bringing the 14-day rolling average percentage of positive cases to 2.9%. The seven-day daily average of tests was 10,424.Of the total number of cases in the county, 3,692 -- or 7.3% -- have required hospitalization and 854 -- or 1.7% of all cases -- had to be admitted to an intensive care unit.One new community outbreak was reported Monday in a restaurant/bar setting. A community setting outbreak is defined as three or more COVID-19 cases in a setting and in people of different households over the past 14 days.Over the weekend, the county allowed private gatherings of up to three households, based on the state's new guidance issued Friday.The gatherings must take place outdoors. If at someone's home, guests may go inside to use the bathroom. Participants in a gathering need to stay at least six feet apart from non-household members and wear face coverings.
