We're going to get involved soon on a federal basis if they can't clean up their act."In San Diego's case, several options have been used to address local homelessness in recent months:The city opened Bridge Shelters and is set to open its fourth location this month; Parking lots where people living in cars can sleep for free;Storage lockers for homeless people to store their belongings, with a third facility being proposed;City funded program, Wheels of Change, to employ homeless people to clean up streets;Still, according to a Point-In-Time Count by the Regional Task Force on Homeless, there are a little more than 8,000 homeless individuals in San Diego County. That number splits into 4,476 unsheltered people and 3,626 classified as sheltered in the county.Members of the Trump Administration visited Los Angeles this month to tour the city's homeless encampments. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Covid Clinic’s debut in San Diego County was a little rocky in April when it was shut down by Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county’s public health officer.Fast forward to today, the operation seems to be running smoothly in both La Mesa and Downtown San Diego.“Since we were one of the first to open in San Diego County, there were some things that were brought to our attention that the county wanted,” said Covid Clinic CEO, Matt Collins. “So once we met each of the items that they were requesting, we’ve been able to continue testing without any issues.”Wooten sent a letter to Covid Clinic stating that the first site at MiraCosta College in Cardiff needed to shut down because the proper credentials to operate were not provided to the county. Test results also were not immediately reported to the county.Collins said the clinic now reports results to the county every day.He said, on average, about 100 to 150 people are tested at the downtown location, while about 350 to 400 are tested in La Mesa.While many testing sites are now limiting COVID-19 tests to those who have symptoms or fall in the high-risk category, Collins said anyone could schedule an appointment online to be tested at Covid Clinic.Across the country, people have also reported significant delays in test results. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — By Saturday, many businesses will be shutting their doors all over again as San Diego County deals with a new round of restrictions in the purple tier."The overwhelming majority of folks who are doing it right are forced to be punished because of the individuals who choose not to," said Nathan Fletcher, San Diego County Supervisor. "Where we are now in a situation where we're faced with all bad options."The county's public health officer, Dr. Wilma Wooten, recently requested the state reconsider San Diego County's tier placement and keep the county in the red tier. She argued that data from October revealed the county's increased COVID-19 cases are not because of the sectors that would be impacted the most by moving into the purple tier. The request was not approved."We're going to continue to work to do everything we can with the state to have an approach that's right," said Fletcher.He said it's essential that every jurisdiction across the county does what it can to reduce the spread of COVID-19."We have to come together," he said. "There are limits of what the county can do when it comes to enforcement; we really need the help of the law enforcement agencies."But some say this has gone too far. Many business owners are now choosing to defy the orders and stay open to ensure their business survives, and employees still have a job.El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells said he has taken many calls and emails about the struggles business owners face in his jurisdiction.Some say defying the orders and keeping their doors open means keeping food on their family's table. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Cat Kom spent Tuesday morning leading Studio Sweat’s spin and sculpt fusion class, a half-hour of spin, and a half-hour of strength.“It is hard but it feels so good,” Kom said after the session.The other thing adding to her jubilance: the fact that she could finally open her boutique gym's new location in Rancho Bernardo.She said it seems like a long time coming.Kom’s outlook was a lot different when she first spoke to 10News in April in the midst of the coronavirus shut down.She couldn't open her new gym, was still paying rent for the old 4S Ranch location, and, like many small business owners, was shut out from a federal stimulus Paycheck Protection Program loan.“We didn't lay a single person off,” she said at the time. “That was our plan and that's what we hoped to do. Now we're kind of going, oh my gosh I might have to lay people off.”Fast forward to Tuesday.
