Amazon’s smart assistant Alexa now tops 7,000 skills, a 7X increase in 7 months
Amazon’s Web site certainly has an Alexa bent to it, with examples showing how customers can use the Echo device to trigger “movie night” or lower the temperature in a room. It also offers a “Smart Home Consultation for Alexa,” and offers services such as setup for Amazon’s Fire TV and implementation of the Rachio sprinkler control system. Rachio is backed by Amazon.
Among them, home care and personal care categories grew at a fast clip, while food and beverages maintained a slower pace, the report showed.
Among the 297 newly set up businesses in the park in the first seven months, about one fifth were from Beijing.
Amazon’s voice-controlled Echo speaker is the third-most popular electronics item on the retail site, and has generated many positive reviews from tech outlets as well as consumers. As it happens, on the same day that Sonos announced layoffs, The New York Times wrote that “the Echo has morphed from a gimmicky experiment into a device that brims with profound possibility.”
