CHULA VISTA (KGTV) – Chula Vista police are investigating an overnight carjacking and kidnapping involving perpetrators disguised as law enforcement.The incident was reported just before midnight Tuesday in the Rancho Del Rey III neighborhood in East Chula Vista.Police said a group of men, armed with guns and wearing bullet proof vests, were driving in two white Ford Expedition SUV’s, which appeared to look like squad vehicles. Two people wearing vests with the word 'police' on the front ordered him to get out of his Renault Koleos SUV. Police said the victim believed the suspects had a gun. He got into one of their SUVs and was driven to Paseo Del Rey Park, located between Telegraph Canyon Road and East J Street. The suspects released the victim unharmed at the park, according to police.The victim walked 40 minutes to a residence on J Street to call 9-1-1, police said. He was not hurt in the incident, police said.The suspect vehicles and the stolen SUV are still outstanding, according to police. (KGTV) - Chula Vista Police are asking the public for help solving three hit-and-run cases that have remained unsolved since January of last year — two of which resulted in deaths.The first occurred on Jan. 22, 2017, at about 6:45 p.m. at the intersection of Broadway and G Street. Police said 43-year-old Rafael Cruz Fermin was hit by a vehicle traveling southbound on Broadway. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene in what was described as a red, 2002-2005 Ford Explorer or Mercury Mountaineer.Fermin died at the scene, despite being given first aid. Read more.The second incident was on Sept. 14, 2017, at about 7:30 p.m. in the 700 block of E Street. A driver struck a 52-year-old man between the McDonald's and Motel 6, before fleeing the area. The victim was left with severe internal injuries, of which police say he still suffers from.The driver, described as a possibly older, white man with short white or blonde hair, was last seen in a gold, older model Pontiac, Lincoln, or Buick. (CNS) - An inmate was hospitalized with severe injuries after being found unresponsive in his cell at the South Bay Detention Facility in Chula Vista, authorities said Thursday.Around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday, deputies assigned to South Bay Detention Facility, 500 Third Ave., found the man inside his cell "with obvious signs of trauma," San Diego County Sheriff's Lt. "It's frustrating, and almost like, betrayal," Eastlake Senior, Isabella Borquez said.
