SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An Encinitas family on vacation woke up to a disturbing alert last week, video of someone stealing multiple packages from their porch.Homeowner Mark Sandorf says the most peculiar thing was who the thief was."It’s different in that she looks like she’s probably someone’s grandma," said Sandorf.The family immediately filed a police report from New Mexico.10News blurred the woman's face because the San Diego Sheriff's Department has not yet said she's a wanted suspect.One of the packages had sentimental value, three custom holsters for Sandorf's son who is in law enforcement."My son is, like I said, risking his life out there every day and we try to keep him in good equipment and what not. These were custom made by a friend of mine in South Carolina," said Sandorf.Sandorf says the most frustrating thing is knowing the holsters will likely get thrown away.He hopes others in his Encinitas Ranch neighborhood will be on alert after the incident. 980

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A teen is fighting for his life at Sharp Memorial Hospital after he was hit by a Jeep while riding his bike in Clairemont.According to CHP officers, the accident happened just before 9 p.m. on Saturday. Officers say a Jeep was getting onto the freeway at the Clairemont Mesa Boulevard on-ramp to the 805-N when he hit the teen riding his bike. The driver says he never saw the teen until it was too late. According to officers, the teen was not in a designated cross walk, but near it. The driver of the Jeep stayed on scene, his passenger jumped out to perform CPR while paramedics arrived.The teen suffered life threatening injuries. Drugs or alcohol are not suspected in the crash 712

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A would-be purse snatcher was caught by San Diego Police in Normal Heights Tuesday thanks to witnesses.Stephanie Moore says she was inside the Vons on Adams Avenue and 36th Street when a man grabbed her purse.As soon as it happened, Moore says she started chasing after the suspect. “I am a tough girl and the first thing I do is act instead of react.”Rocco Estello and two other good Samaritans tell 10News they saw the incident happen when they also ran after the suspect, calling police in the process."We caught up to him, but he took off this way and SDPD caught up to him, which is a really, really good blessing because it makes me feel better to be on these streets,” said Estello.The man was arrested and the purse returned. Moore says her keys are still missing, but she believes they just fell out during the chaseIn the end, Moore says she’s thankful to have her purse back and that there are good people in the world. “I always think there’s good people in the world because I see people stand up when they need to.” 1061

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An effort is underway to crack down on illegal party boats and other charter vessels operating on San Diego Bay. The Port of San Diego wants to create new charter permit requirements to make it easier for those who want to operate legally to do so. Currently, legal charter vessel operators must obtain a Permit from a marina or sportishing landing where they board passengers, and according to the Port there are more charter vessel operators than there are available slips at the marinas and sportfishing landings on San Diego Bay.To address this problem, the Port proposes to issue all Charter Vessel Operation Permits (Permits) for all Charter Vessel Operations and collect license agreement fees from qualified Charter Vessel Operators who do not have an agreement to operate from a marina or sportfishing landing. “San Diego Bay great place to do charter business because it's almost entirely landlocked, not subject to swells, makes for great party boats, cruising,” says Captain John Valente of San Diego Bay Cruises. Valente spent 15 months and almost 0,000 to get his boat in compliance with federal regulations. The figure does not include the price of insurance. Last year Harbor Police discovered roughly 200 charter vessels operating illegally in San Diego. “It’s very disheartening and it hurts because that's revenue lost. I need to pay the bills, I need to pay my rent,” says Valente. Officers and the Coast Guard are conducting joint patrols to stop the illegal operators. "It's not easy, the enforcement, but this does strengthen the rules and make it pretty clear who can and cannot be charter operators,” said Chief Mark Stainbrook, who added he would consider undercover operations if necessary. Stainbrook said the deadly diving boat fire off Santa Barbara's coast is another reminder at why getting this issue right is so important; they can't risk unsafe charters on the water. Valente says he's glad the Port is amending regulations, but isn't sure the current proposal goes far enough. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Amber Robinson is a decorated army combat veteran who enlisted following Sept. 11. She served a decade as a photojournalist on three deployments in the Kunar Province, one of the most dangerous regions in Afghanistan."I was in the country when special forces went in for Osama bin Laden, watching as they took him out," Robinson said.The deployments took a toll in 2013 when she watched four young soldiers being laid to rest."I remember watching these kids and didn't want to hear anymore that they didn't make it home," said Robinson.She is now a disabled vet with an autoimmune disease and PTSD. She helped create the non-profit American History Theater, which fights for veteran's rights and raises awareness about veterans' issues, like PTSD.She says that having the freedom to vote has never meant more."I feel like it is more important than ever been people are anticipating this and are really excited to vote," Robinson said. "Be an American, that's what beautiful. We are in a democracy and you could use your voice and inspire someone else to vote and fight for what you believe in."She doesn't have to search far for her inspiration to vote."I vote as a veteran thinking about my brothers and sisters who didn't make it home," says Robinson. 1280
