ASTANA, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- China's top political adviser, Jia Qinglin, met here Wednesday with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and both sides called for intensified bilateral ties.Jia, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, said during the meeting that bilateral relations have witnessed fruitful development since the two countries established diplomatic ties 18 years ago.China and Kazakhstan have supported each other in such issues concerning their core interests as sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, Jia said.They also have carried out close cooperation under multilateral frameworks of the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia, the top adviser said.In addition, Jia said, both sides have kept close communications and coordination on major regional and international issues."Deepening relationship between the two was in line with the basic interests of the people in two countries, and China will work hard with Kazakhstan for a sounder and deeper relationship," Jia said.China and Kazakhstan bear great potential in economic development, and the two sides will further strengthen cooperation in the fields of finance, energy, transportation and tourism, Jia said.Nazarbayev hailed the close high-level contacts and the development of ties after the two countries established a strategic partnership in 2005.He also hailed the ever-deepening pragmatic cooperation that has benefited the two countries.Kazakhstan values the development of its ties with China and stands ready to work together to further enhance exchanges and cooperation in such areas as trade and economy, energy, and security so as to keep promoting their strategic relationship, the president said.Nazarbayev also vowed to intensify cooperation with China under the SCO framework."Since Kazakhstan is now chairing the rotating presidency of the organization, we will try all means to prepare and present a successful summit next year," he said.On the same day, Jia also met with Nurlan Nigmatulin, first deputy chairman of People's Democratic Party "Nur Otan." BEIJING, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- China's efforts to deal with lawsuit-related public petitions have seen positive results with 616 such cases being resolved as of the end of October, figures from the Ministry of Justice show.Since March, when a campaign to manage cases of public petitions and complaints began, judicial and administrative departments across the country have dealt with 6,501 lawsuit-related petition cases."In order to avoid lawsuit-related public petitions from the root, prisons and detention centers across the country have launched training programs for prison police to promote their management and law enforcement capacities," Vice Minister Hao Chiyong said Wednesday at a meeting.In China, many public petitions and complaints involved mistreatment of prisoners in detention centers as police sought confessions by allegedly torturing detainees."Through these efforts, the number of lawsuit-related petition cases have dropped significantly," Hao said.In addition to police training, local governments were told to carefully consider and check corruption-prone cases and those strongly felt by the public, and deal with these cases in accordance with laws and regulations.According to Hao, the ministry is planning to let mediation play a larger role in solving public conflicts and complaints by organizing legal workers to provide legal aid and guide people to express their demands in a reasonable manner.Figures released this September by the State Council Information Office show that, in 2009, the number of letters from, and visits of people for petitioning, dropped by 2.7 percent over the previous year, a decrease for the fifth consecutive year.

BEIJING, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- China on Thursday again called on the relevant parties to make joint efforts to safeguard peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula.Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei made the remarks at a regular press briefing.The Republic of Korea (ROK) and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) exchanged artillery fire Tuesday in waters off the west coast of the Korean Peninsula, leaving four people dead.Hong initially expressed China's stance Wednesday with regard to the exchange of fire between the ROK and the DPRK.On Thursday, Hong again called on parties involved to stay calm and exercise restraint, and urged the ROK and DPRK to engage in dialogue and refrain from similar actions.China has always maintained that the relevant parties resolve disputes through negotiations and by peaceful means and be committed to safeguarding peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula, Hong said.China opposed any acts that harmed the peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula, he went on."It is very urgent and important to restart the six-party talks at the current stage," Hong said, adding China had maintained close contact with all the parties involved, including the United States.He said China hoped parties involved could make concerted efforts to properly handle their concerns through talks and consultation within the framework of the six-party talks, which involved China, the DPRK, the United States, the ROK, Russia and Japan.China would like to make concerted efforts with all parties to help ease tension, seek peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula, Hong said.With respect to the planned joint military drill between the United States and the ROK in waters off the west coast of the Korean Peninsula from Nov.28 to Dec. 1, Hong said China was concerned."China holds a consistent and clear stance on the issue," Hong said without elaborating.
