NEW YORK, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- China on Wednesday urged all parties to seize "new opportunities" to find a diplomatic solution to the Iranian nuclear issue.Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi made the remarks in a meeting on Iran with his counterparts from the United States, Russia, Britain, France and Germany in New York."At present, there are new opportunities in advancing the diplomatic solution to the Iranian nuclear issue," Yang said."All parties should use the positive elements in the current circumstances to further enhance diplomatic efforts so as to push the Iranian nuclear issue back to the track of dialogue."Yang said that China will continue to play a "constructive role " in the international community's effort to find "a comprehensive, lasting and fair" solution to the Iranian nuclear issue.A statement issued after the foreign ministers' meeting called for an "early negotiated solution" to the Iranian nuclear issue.The foreign ministers are "ready to engage with Iran," the statement said.The six-nation ministerial meeting on Iran was held on the sidelines of a UN high-level meeting on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

BEIJING, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- China National Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd. (CNCEC), one of the country's leading engineering, procurement and construction firms, said its net profit for the first six months of 2010 grew by 58.61 percent.Net profits totaled 653 million yuan (96 million U.S. dollars) while earnings per share stood at 0.13 yuan, up 20.37 percent from one year earlier, the company said in a statement filed with the Shanghai Stock Exchange late Sunday.CNCEC said its revenues during the first half of this year were valued at 14.57 billion yuan, among which project construction contracts accounted for 13.03 billion yuan, up 15.97 percent from one year earlier.The Beijing-based company has also made progress in overseas markets where revenues increased by 63.53 percent to nearly three billion yuan, while domestic revenues grew by 8.54 percent to 11.5 billion yuan, according to the statement.CNCEC attributed its strong performance to collective material purchasing, improved outsourcing and investment management, continuously reduced project costs and an effective human resources incentive mechanism.

ATHENS, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived here Saturday, kicking off his three-day official visit to Greece.The Greece visit, the first stop of Wen's four-nation Europe tour, is the first by a Chinese premier in 24 years.During his stay, Premier Wen is due to meet Greek President Karolos Papoulias and Parliament Speaker Philippos Petsalnikos and hold talks with Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou before witnessing the signing of a series of deals. Wen will also deliver a speech in the Greek parliament on China-Greece and China-EU relations."Coping with the financial crisis will be an important topic for talks between Wen and Greek leaders. We have a positive attitude about the measures taken by the European Union and the International Monetary Fund," Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Fu Ying said earlier on Wen's Greece visit. BEIJING, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- The value of yuan, China's currency Renminbi, strengthened for a third consecutive day against U.S. dollar Friday as the central parity rate of the yuan was set at 6.6497 per U.S. dollar, according to the data released by the China Foreign Exchange Trading System.Friday's central parity rate beat the previous record of 6.6582 on Oct. 14.The yuan has picked up its strength against the U.S. dollars and seen increased volatility in the trading days since the People's Bank of China (PBOC), the central bank, announced on June 19 this year to increase exchange rate flexibility.Based on Friday's central parity, the Chinese currency has strengthened against the U.S. dollar by about 2.65 percent from the rate of 6.8275 per U.S. dollar that was set a day before the PBOC's pledge to increase flexibility.On China's foreign exchange spot market, the yuan can rise or fall 0.5 percent from the central parity rate during trading each day.The PBOC released the yuan's central parity rates against a basket of currencies -- the U.S. dollar, the euro, the Japanese yen, the Hong Kong dollar, the British pound and the Malaysian Ringgit.The yuan's parity rate against the euro was set by the central bank at 9.3259 Friday, higher from 9.3491 on Oct. 14, the previous trading day.The yuan's rate against 100 yen was 8.1531 Friday, compared with 8.1611on Thursday.The yuan's rate against the British pound was 10.6305, compared with 10.6192 on the previous trading day.The central parity of RMB against the U.S. dollar is based on a weighted average of enquired prices from all market makers before the opening of the market in each business day.The central parity of RMB against the other five currencies is based on the central rate of RMB against the U.S. dollar of the same business day as well as the exchange rates of the five currencies against the U.S. dollar at 9 a.m. (0100 GMT) of the same business day in the international foreign exchange market.
