BEIJING, Aug.6 (Xinhua)-- China's Ministry of Finance announced Friday it will float a batch of 273-day book-entry treasury bonds worth 10 billion yuan (1.48 billion U.S. dollars) next week.A statement on the ministry's website said the bonds will be sold at 98.62 yuan per bill, with an annual yield of 1.88 percent.The bill will be sold to the public from Aug. 9 to 11, and become tradable in the exchange markets since Aug. 13, according to the statement.The interest is to be calculated on August 9.This is the 10th batch of its kind launched by the ministry this year.

BEIJING, July 25 (Xinhua) -- A swollen subtributary of the Yangtze River has sent a deluge to Danjiangkou Reservoir, a major reservoir in central China's Henan and Hubei provinces, the state flood control agency said Sunday.The water level of the Danjiang River, a tributary of the Hanjiang River, rose to 217.59 meters Saturday afternoon, with a water flow of 10,000 cubic meters per second, the highest since 1953, said a statement of the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters.Hanjiang River is the second largest tributary of the Yangtze River, China's biggest river.Flood gushed into the Danjiangkou Reservoir, at the confluence of the Danjiang and Hanjiang rivers, 34,100 cubic meters a second early Sunday, the second biggest deluge since the reservoir was built in 1968.Liu Ning, vice minister of water resources and secretary general of the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters, said Sunday that local authority should closely monitor the weather, and step up monitoring efforts against potential flood risks.Premier Wen Jiabao has ordered local governments to adopt scientific measures to prepare well for "more serious floods and disasters" as some of the country's major rivers surpassed their warning levels.Wen said China was at a "crucial stage" for flood control during an inspection tour in Hubei Province that began July 23.

WUHAN, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Bidding farewell to their hometown for good, 499 villagers in central China's Hubei Province left their homes Wednesday morning, becoming the first group to relocate to make way for China's South-North Water Diversion Project (SNWD).Their hometown of Niuhelin District, Danjiankou City, will be submerged by 2014 under 170 meters of water."I am surprised nobody cried when the coaches left our village. Last night, we felt sorrow when the whole village gathered to have our last dinner in our hometown together," a villager surnamed Wang said.The government paid the dinner and organized a troupe of gong and drum players to cheer up the villagers.Their journey was the starting point for the nation's largest relocation program after that of the Three Gorges Hydro-Power Project, which involved the relocation of 1.27 million.The relocation for the building of the central route of the SNWD by 2014 will involve 330,000 residents - 180,000 in Hubei and 150,000 in neighboring Henan Province.The project is designed to take water from a section of China's largest river, the Yangtze, to satisfy demand in the north China's drought-prone megacities - Beijing and Tianjin.According to the government, from Wednesday until September 30, about 60,000 people will be relocated.At the farewell scene, a fleet of 15 coaches carried the villagers while 34 trucks loaded with the villagers' belongings was followed by a number of ambulances with the village's elderly, unwell and pregnant."We may set a record in terms of speed of relocation -- 60,000 people within 50 days. BEIJING, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- More relief supplies, worth 20 million yuan (2.94 million U.S. dollars), have been sent from China to flood-hit Pakistan, China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said in a statement Wednesday.The shipments mainly contained urgently-needed daily necessities, including grain, cooking oil, flour, sugar, salt and medicine, the ministry said in a brief notice on its website.The supplies are to be transported through a land route to the Sust dry port near the Pakistan-China border from Kashgar in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the statement said.However, the ministry did not say when the supplies would arrive, as workers were still rushing to repair the road linking Kashgar and Khunjerab Pass.China is one of the first countries to respond to the relief needs of Pakistan when it was hit by the worst floods in 81 years. China's first delivery of aid, worth 10 million yuan, was delivered on Aug. 4. BEIJING, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Flood-triggered disasters have killed more than 1,450 Chinese this year, with another 669 missing, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs.Lingering rainstorms have been slashing provinces including Shaanxi, Sichuan and Jilin this year, triggering floods and landslides, which have affected a population of 200 million and forced more than 12 million to evacuate, according to the ministry.Nearly 13.5 million hectares of crops were affected by heavy rains and floods, with 2.09 million hectares destroyed, while floods have also leveled more than 1.36 million houses.The total economic loss was put at more than 275 billion yuan(40.6 billion U.S dollars), according to the ministry.The central finance authority has recently allocated 195 million yuan to subsidize local governments in those regions worst-hit by natural disasters such as rainstorms and typhoons.The fund, which has been channeled to Jilin, Guangdong, Sichuan and Shaanxi, as well as the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, will be used in relocating residents, helping people rebuild homes and offering relief for residents who lost family members.
