A Phoenix father is accused of using frozen hot dogs to reduce swelling to the legs and backside of his 2-year-old son after he'd abused him.Phoenix police report that on Tuesday they arrested 23-year-old Joshua Junior Rodriguez for child abuse that he allegedly inflicted upon his 2-year-old son on Oct. 11.Police say that after an argument, the boy's mother was packing a bag to leave when she heard "whipping sounds" coming from the garage. When she looked in, she reportedly saw Rodriguez striking their son on the bottom with a strap from a duffel bag.She grabbed the boy away from him and went into the house. However, Rodriguez pushed her away and grabbed the boy again, taking him to the bedroom, removing his diaper and continuing to strike him on the butt.Police say Rodriguez then threw him on the bed and spanked him 23 times, before taking him into the showers where he struck him again when the boy tried to get out.After seeing the injuries he inflicted, Rodriguez allegedly placed a package of frozen hot dogs on his butt to reduce the swelling.He reportedly told the child’s mother, "You're going to get me for child abuse, huh?" He would not allow her to leave home until she agreed not to call the police.During his emotional initial Court appearance, Rodriguez claimed, "these are all false allegations."Police say the boy suffered "extensive bruising" and scratches. 1410
A Phoenix girl who was severely burned in March was visited by Grammy-winning artist Taylor Swift on Saturday. Eight-year-old Isabella and her father were injured on March 17 following an accident involving flammable liquids in north Phoenix. A suspicious package targeting billionaire investor and philanthropist George Soros was rendered safe in Bedford, New York on Monday, a law enforcement source told CNN.The Bedford Police say they received a call reporting a suspicious package found in a mailbox. The package appeared to be an explosive device, police said.An employee had opened the parcel. A nationwide onion recall this summer is hitting meal prep kits. HelloFresh is urging customers to throw away onions from certain meals recently shipped out.The meal prep home delivery company says they were informed by one of their suppliers it is voluntarily recalling onions because of a potential presence of salmonella bacteria.Thomson International, Inc., based in California, issued a recall of all onions distributed after May 1 because of potential contamination with salmonella bacteria. They are a large supplier of onions, and the recall has impacted grocery stores and restaurants in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Canada.All onions received between May 8 and July 31 should be discarded. A top official in the Coast Guard has tested positive for COVID-19, according to CNN and NBC News.Admiral Charles Ray, the Vice Commandant of the Coast Guard, tested positive for COVID-19 over the weekend after experiencing mild symptoms.ABC News reports that all members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, are self-isolating following Ray's positive test result. CNN also reports that Chairman Gen. Mark Milley is among those self-isolating.Ray's infection is just the latest in an outbreak of COVID-19 in the highest levels of the U.S. government.
