BEIJING, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Defense ministers of China and Vietnam held talks Tuesday in Beijing, saying the two countries should boost military cooperation and make contribution to regional peace.

Apart from learning basic theory and professional skills, the trainees will take part in conflict mediation and kidnapping response drills.

"The white paper issued on August 2, full of hackneyed expressions, distorts China's justified and reasonable defense construction and heightens issues in the South China Sea and the East China Sea," said Defense Ministry spokesperson Wu Qian in a statement.

Xi attended Beijing Bayi School, Haidian District, during his elementary and junior high school years. During his visit he commented on the school's dynamic, inspirational environment and remarked on the many positive changes since his time as a student.

"There are still some 50 million Chinese struggling with poverty, and by 2020, they must be all lifted out of poverty. This is my top concern now," Xi said during the tour, which saw him talking with villagers about their lives, and urging CPC cadres to take the lead in poverty reduction.
