BEIJING, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official Zhou Yongkang has called for efforts to promote a police campaign aimed at better addressing public complaints.Zhou, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks in a written instruction on the campaign launched by the Ministry of Public Security on Friday.During the six-month campaign, police will be sent to more households to settle disputes and complaints or help solve public problems. BEIJING, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- In response to the government's call to build a greener economy, China's transport authorities have taken a slew of measures to promote energy saving and emission reductions in the sector.Under the sector's funding policy unveiled earlier this year, 122 emission-cutting projects in the industry have received financial support totalling 250 million yuan (39.3 million U.S. dollars). Encouraged by the special funds, another 8.06 billion yuan in investment went to the projects, according to He Jianzhong, spokesman for the Ministry of Transport (MOT).The projects were estimated to be able to save 315,000 metric tons of coal equivalent, replace 224,000 metric tons of fuel oil and reduce carbon dioxide emission by 1.14 million metric tons, He said.Meanwhile, the MOT has launched nationwide programs to promote low-carbon traffic. It has carried out 80 pilot projects on emission control and designated 10 cities as pilot areas to study and promote green transport system, including Tianjin, Shenzhen, Xiamen, Guiyang, Baoding and Wuhan.He said the ministry will continue to intensify efforts to regulate emissions in the sector to meet the industry's control target during the 12th Five-Year Plan period (2011-2015).In efforts to build a more environmental-friendly society, the government pledged that it will reduce the intensity of carbon dioxide emissions per unit of economic output in 2020 by 40 to 45 percent compared with the level of 2005.

The so-called fat tax is pegged at 16 Danish kroner (2.87 U.S. dollars) per kilo of saturated fat.Thus, a 250-gram packet of butter, which previously cost 15.5 Danish kroner (2.78 dollars), will now cost 18.10 Danish kroner (3.25 dollars). BEIJING, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Senior leader Zhou Yongkang on Friday urged Chinese judiciary and police officers to "creatively" handle cases in a bid to achieve a balance between law enforcement and social sensitivity.Zhou, secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Political and Legislative Affairs, made the remarks at a meeting with Zhan Hongli, a veteran female judge of a juvenile court in southern Fujian province.Zhou urged judiciary workers and police to learn from Zhan, who has not received a single complaint of misjudging in nearly 500 criminal cases involving 1,140 juveniles.In her 27 years of work in courts, she cared for the juveniles like a mother and creatively worked out a feasible judgment method for handling cases of young offenders, said Zhou, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.Zhan addressed saving the juveniles with education and persuasion as well as helping them go back to school and reintegrate into society, an approach which had positive benefits and won favorable comments from the young offenders' families and the public, Zhou said.Zhou also urged judiciary and police officers to enhance the quality of law enforcement and case handling by adhering to principles of fairness and transparency, so as to better settle conflicts among the people.
