(KGTV) - A South Bay mom says the dinner she ordered using a food delivery app never arrived, and the driver couldn't be tracked down."It was my second time using the app," said Melissa Stone.Last Sunday, when Stone's kids had a craving for burgers and fries, she signed into her Grubhub app and ordered an early dinner from Bull Chicks in Chula Vista. An hour passed, but there was no food."Went onto the app, checked the delivery status, and it said it was delivered," said Stone.Confused, she checked her front door but didn't see any deliveries. She called the restaurant. An employee told her her food had been picked up by the driver 15 minutes earlier. She asked for the driver's information and got a woman's name and number. Stone says she tried to contact the driver, but the number was disconnected."I'm upset and hangry at this point," said Stone.She says when complained to Grubhub, they didn't have any answers but gave her a refund."I think somebody was hungry, took my food and ate it," said Stone.Melissa posted the incident on Facebook and got several responses from local Grubhub customers with similar stories, including one involving a male driver who reportedly picked up the food but didn't deliver it."They never received their food," said Stone.And they may not be alone. According to a 2019 survey by US Foods, nearly 30% of drivers with food delivery apps, admit to snacking or stealing the food they're responsible for delivering. A Gruhhub spokesperson issued the following statement:"Our mission is to connect hungry diners with great, local restaurants. We always want our diners to have the best experience possible, and the vast majority of our 450,000 orders each day are completed without incident or complaints. But when things don’t go as planned, we appreciate hearing feedback and work hard to make it right.We looked into the two orders brought to our attention and found they are separate, isolated incidents. Both diners were helped by our customer care team and received refunds for the affected orders and promo codes for future orders. We did not find any evidence of misconduct by our drivers during either of the deliveries.Overall, we have zero tolerance for misconduct from our delivery partners, and we work to immediately resolve incidents. Our drivers sign a contract before partnering with us that makes it clear that misconduct is not permitted. As a matter of practice, we do extensive motor vehicle and criminal background checks before contracting with a driver, and we periodically re-run these checks while any driver is contracted with us." 2628

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A 16-year-old who reportedly made a social media threat against Bonita Vista High School was arrested Tuesday, police say. According to police, officials discovered that the juvenile was responsible for the second of two threats against the school. "The juvenile told police that he had seen the first threat online and decided to 'join-in' to further scare people. He said he thought it would be funny," police said. The teenager was arrested for making criminal threats and is expected to be released to his parents. I like some of you. Try to skip school if you value your life."Another comment below the post read, "I don't think you guys are gonna wanna hide in the 900s," apparently referring to the campus' "math village." (KGTV) -- A Chula Vista Police officer was honored with a Medal of Valor and Purple Heart from the Chula Vista Police Department Thursday morning after being stabbed while on duty in 2017.Officer David Sachs was honored with a Medal of Valor for his “extraordinary bravery and willingness to protect the lives of others, without regard for his own safety” the department said. He was also awarded a Purple Heart for his injuries while on duty.On September 19 of 2017, Officer Sachs along with Officer Leo Banales and Chaplain Wes Anderson responded to a home on Monterey Avenue after receiving a report that a man’s neighbor threw a large piece of concrete over his fence, injuring the victim.RELATED: Chula Vista Police officer who shot man recovering from stabbing?When officers arrived, the victim pointed out the suspect’s house. After knocking on the door, the suspect’s mother answered and invited the officers in.Police say, though they didn’t know at the time, the suspect, described as a 6-foot-tall man in his late 20s, was suffering from emotional or psychological distress.After stepping into the home’s kitchen, the suspect started attacking Sachs with a knife, stabbing him multiple times in the face, head and arm.Police say Sachs was able to knock the suspect to the ground while yelling “Knife! Knife! Knife!” to his partners.The suspect then lunged at Banales with a knife before he and Anderson went outside. The suspect collapsed in the dining room after being struck.After hearing the shots, Anderson went back to the home’s front door to help. (KGTV) -- While most students in San Diego County are distance learning, there are some schools that are doing a combination of virtual and in-person learning.One school in the South Bay is working with a hybrid system that makes sure all students get the same learning opportunities.St. Rose of Lima Catholic School in Chula Vista welcomed students back on campus a month ago. To keep class sizes small and following state guidelines, they split the older graders into separate classrooms.But not everyone returned to campus, as dozens of families chose to stay at home and do distance learning.So, the school put together a hybrid system that allows all students to participate in real time teaching no matter where they are.With the use of technology, the teacher can see the students at home and the students that are in both classrooms.Sixth-grade teacher Michael Hart said with the help of Zoom, a camera, and classroom speakers, he can engage all students in daily lessons.“I have a Logitech camera that tracks me so it will follow me around the classroom or if I’m behind my desk. It’s just a simple remote,” Hart said.He also uses an app that makes sure every student is called upon equally, so they can all participate in class discussions.Sixth-grader Zachary Lastrella told ABC 10News, “If Mr. Hart asks us a question either in here or in the Zoom or in the other room, then we can answer the question.”As for tests, all of the students complete those using their laptops via Google Forms.Hart added, “It’s able to randomize the questions, whether it’s multiple choice or fill in the blanks or an essay response, and it does come down to academic honesty.”Students say physically their “classrooms” may be different now, but the important elements are still there.Devraaj Jani, a sixth grade students, said, “We’re still in one class, and we’re still together as one.” 1908

(KGTV) — Chula Vista Police have made an arrest in connection with the body of a woman found in a field in August.Police said 28-year-old Vanesa Gastellu was arrested for the murder of Christina Garcia on Aug. 5. Garcia's body was discovered in a field near the 3100 block of Main Street by a passerby.
