SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A local realtor who molested two underage girls apologized to his victims during a court hearing Friday, while those speaking on behalf of the victims said they could take solace in the fact that he will likely spend the rest of his life behind bars.Donald Edward Hickey, 62, pleaded guilty last month to five felonies, including lewd and lascivious acts with a child and possession of child pornography for material investigators found on three separate devices.Hickey was initially set to be sentenced to a 25-years-to-life term on Friday, but the hearing was postponed until Sept. 6 so that an interview can be conducted for his probation report, which could affect his future in-custody housing considerations.Prosecutors did not disclose how Hickey knew the victims, but according to Deputy District Attorney Stephen Marquardt, the molestations occurred sometime between 2009 and 2012 in San Diego County. Hickey was arrested last year following a cyber tip sent to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.The former Clairemont resident, who worked as a real estate agent out of La Jolla, was found to have ``thousands'' of videos and images of child pornography in his possession, some of which depicted Hickey abusing children.``This defendant not only preyed on these children, but he also memorialized what he did so that he could retain a copy of the real-time abuse of those children,'' Marquardt said.Hickey's attorney, Danielle Iredale, said Hickey was molested by a local man in his neighborhood when Hickey was between the ages of 10 and 12.Hickey told those in attendance, ``I'm sorry for everything that's happened. I take responsibility for it and I hope they do heal from it.'' Despite the postponed sentencing, victims were allowed to speak Friday in case they could not attend Hickey's sentencing next month.One of the girls, identified in court only as Jane Doe 2, said she was working to put the experience behind her, and was working on forgiving Hickey, though ``I am conflicted,'' she said. ``Because I don't know how you came to be the way you are and feel sympathy for your sickness. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An El Cajon man was sentenced Friday to 14 years in prison for distributing fentanyl, some of which caused the fatal overdose of a former player for the San Diego Old Aztecs Rugby Football Club.Christopher Glenn Emison, 33, pleaded guilty earlier this year to a distribution of fentanyl count for selling more than 40 grams of the drug, some of which led to the death of 45-year-old Derrick Hotchkiss in his San Diego home on April 11, 2019.A co-defendant, 34-year-old San Diego resident Jeffrey Alden Blair, pleaded guilty in February and is due to be sentenced next month.Prosecutors say Hotchkiss had text messages on his phone indicating Emison sold him fentanyl the night before his death.Shortly after Hotchkiss' death, investigators searched Emison's home and vehicle and seized fentanyl, heroin residue, firearms, ammunition and other items indicating drug sales.Prosecutors say Emison admitted to knowing the fentanyl was dangerous and apparently sent text messages to Hotchkiss to warn him of the drug's strength but never received a response."Selling drugs is not a victimless crime. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Health officials Wednesday reported seven more deaths in San Diego County due to influenza complications last week, bringing this flu season's death toll to 42.The seven residents were between the ages of 53 and 90 and all had additional medical issues. Only two of them had been vaccinated, according to the county Health and Human Services Agency. At this time last flu season, the county had received reports of 281 deaths due to flu complications.The county also saw a new weekly high for lab-confirmed flu cases at 545, according to the HHSA's weekly flu report. The county has recorded 5,486 confirmed flu cases so far this flu season, a far cry from the 17,397 reported at this time last flu season. County health officials touted the data in the weekly flu report as evidence that the current flu season may still be cresting."Influenza is still widespread in the region and continues to sicken San Diegans," said Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county's public health officer. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A woman died Monday after being injured Sunday when she was hit by a car in Rancho Penasquitos, police said.The San Diego County Medical Examiner says Nang Arm, 37, died after she was taken off life support Monday. Medics responded to a call at 7:07 a.m. Sunday on Black Mountain Road and Carmel Mountain Road, where they found an unconscious woman with face injuries, San Diego police Sgt. Robert Hawkins said.A gold-colored 2006 Nissan Sentra driven by 20-year-old Uvelyn Nunez- Jaramillo and carrying two passengers, was heading south on the 13700 block of Black Mountain Road when the car veered to the right, SDPD Sgt. Tim Underwood said.The car went onto a sidewalk, damaged a fence, then struck the Nang. She was taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital, Hawlins said.The car continued a short distance down the street, where it also hit a water line before it came to a stop. Nunez-Jaramillo exited the Nissan and walked away.Several passersby stopped at the scene to render aid to the woman and emergency personnel, Underwood said.Detectives determined that Nunez-Jaramillo caused the crash. She was contacted and returned to the scene, where police determined she allegedly was driving under the influence.She was arrested and booked in the Las Colinas Women's Detention Facility for felony driving under the influence and felony hit and run.Detectives also interviewed Nunez-Jaramillo's two passengers, who were released, Underwood said. 1468
