FORT MYERS, Fla. -- A medical examiner's report shows a 17-year-old girl who died of COVID-19 may have contracted the coronavirus at a church party in Florida. In the report, it says the party Carsyn Davis attended on June 10 had about 100 people there. It said none of them were wearing masks, and only three days later, the Fort Myers teen started showing symptoms.The church is defending itself against criticism on social media, saying on Facebook that it did not ignore protocols or intentionally expose children to the virus, and that media reports suggesting these things are “absolutely false and defamatory.”However, a gathering of that size and the lack of masks is against both Florida Department of Health and CDC guidelines.The report also shows that after Davis started experiencing symptoms, her parents didn’t immediately take her to the hospital. They instead treated her with two prescription medications, one of which was hydroxychloroquine.“I read a few of the recent studies on hydroxychloroquine, and some of the reports, and it has shown some promise, but that’s all. It’s not that it’s totally effective," said Dr. Jay Gupta at Florida Gulf Coast University. Gupta said it’s not a drug you should ever try without talking with a doctor. The medical examiner report shows that on June 19, Davis had her oxygen levels drop when her mother measured them. Gupta said that’s a big warning sign.“If they’re having breathing trouble, then they should certainly go to a doctor," said Gupta.But Davis didn’t see a doctor.Instead, the report said her mother, a nurse, put her on an oxygen tank they had in the house for her grandfather. When that didn’t work, she was taken to the hospital on June 20. Davis died only two days after being hospitalized, according to the report. Four Toledo, Ohio, teenagers who pleaded guilty to killing a man when they dropped a sandbag from a highway overpass have been ordered to a youth treatment facility, a court official said."The youth treatment center is a lockdown facility in Toledo. The program runs six months, but there is no set time to release. The average youth spends eight months there," Lori Olender, juvenile division deputy chief for the Lucas County Prosecutor's Office, said in an email.Besides being ordered to the youth treatment facility, the teenagers were given four-year suspended sentences, placed on probation and ordered to perform 30 hours of community service, Olender said.One was charged with murder and felonious assault and three were charged with involuntary manslaughter and vehicular vandalism, she said. All four pleaded guilty.The youths were charged after a sandbag dropped from an interstate overpass crashed through the window of a vehicle below and hit Marquise Byrd, 22, on December 19, 2017. He died later at a hospital.Three of the teens were 14 when the incident happened and one was 13, authorities said. Some people are even beginning to show up hours before scheduled food distributions."I came here at 11 o'clock and there was already three people in front of me,” said Michael Sell, who waited outside a drive-thru food pantry that opened at 1 p.m. near Springfield, Massachusetts.Sell is a retired mental health professional, who now relies on pantries in the region. He says he’s seen the pantry lines grow for months."It is almost incomprehensible how many people are hurting,” Sell added.“Every distribution we are running is out of food, and I am calling suppliers, and I'm calling food banks like, 'we need more food’,” said Robin Bialecki, with the Easthampton Community Center.Bialecki also works with the Western Massachusetts Food Bank to hold a drive-thru pantry several times a month. Every month the pandemic goes on, it has become more difficult to provide enough food for all the people in her community in need. There have been times where the pantry has had to ask people to take less food so they could help more families.“A lot of people who normally give during the holiday season, they're keeping that food,” said Bialecki. “They have lost their jobs.”Some people who used to donate regularly are now seeking help from her pantry. Four 15-year-olds were arrested after leading Metro Nashville Police officers on a chase that ended on Briley Parkway.The teens in the chase involving a stolen car are also under investigation in relation to other recent crimes involving juveniles.On Thursday, officers were on the lookout for the stolen Prius after receiving a tip that wanted 14-year-old Rico Ransom was suspected of being in the vehicle.Ransom has been a fugitive since he allegedly shot and critically wounded a 17-year-old across from Pearl Cohn High School nearly two weeks ago.Officers pursued the teens for 15 minutes after spotting the car at 20th Avenue North & Herman Street. They then deployed spike strips into the path of the Prius finally, which finally caused the vehicle to slow and stop on Briley Parkway. The teens bailed out and ran. Three were quickly arrested and the fourth was arrested while hiding in a neighborhood on W. Vailview Court.The Prius was stolen on the morning of February 20 on Neal Terrace.Officers continue in their efforts to locate Rico Ransom.
