Rolling Hills Elementary School, on Pe?asquitos Drive west of Interstate 15, was placed on lockdown around 9 a.m. as police searched for the suspect along Avenida Montuosa, a street off Del Diablo Way just south of the school, according to San Diego police. Around 10 a.m., police called off the search and the lockdown was lifted, SDPD public-affairs officer Billy Hernandez said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An alleged drunken driver was going 121 mph when he caused a fiery freeway pileup that killed two men and seriously injured a woman on Interstate 15 last year, a prosecutor told jurors Tuesday, but a defense attorney claimed an off-duty San Diego police sergeant is actually to blame for the deaths.Jeffrey Brian Levi, 39, is charged with murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, hit-and-run and drunken driving, for the Jan. 2, 2018, deaths of 33-year-old Jesus David Dominguez and 19-year-old Isaac Felix, who were burned to death inside a Toyota Corolla that was struck at about 11:45 that night in the fast lane of northbound Interstate 15 near Miramar Road.Giovanna Dominguez -- Jesus Dominguez's sister and Felix's girlfriend - - was also a passenger in the Corolla. She survived but sustained broken bones and burns across her body.RELATED: Suspected drunk driver facing murder charge in fiery crash that killed twoDeputy District Attorney Andrew Aguilar told jurors in his opening statement of Levi's trial that the defendant rear-ended the Corolla, then walked away from the crash scene unscathed.The Corolla was left disabled in the fast lane with no lights on, its three occupants "sitting ducks" for an ensuing crash, Aguilar said.A short time later, a Ford Explorer driven by off-duty San Diego police Sgt. Raymond Rowe then struck the Corolla, which burst into flames and left Dominguez and Felix trapped inside the burning wreckage, while bystanders pulled Giovanna Dominguez out.The Ford Explorer overturned, coming to rest upside down, and Rowe was treated for minor to moderately serious injuries.Aguilar alleged that about three hours after the crash, Levi had a blood-alcohol content of 0.16%, which is twice the legal limit.Levi, who was charged with murder due to a 2007 misdemeanor DUI conviction, faces 40 years to life in prison if convicted.Defense attorney Amanda Waddle alleged that Rowe was "an unreasonable and negligent driver" who should be held liable for the deadly wreck. According to Waddle, Rowe was speeding, failed to wear his prescription glasses and was looking in his rearview mirror at the time of impact.Aguilar noted that Rowe often used his rearview mirror to spot anyone who might be trailing him from the police station to his home, a risk that Rowe potentially faced as a member of the department's gang unit.In addition to not paying attention, Waddle said that Rowe failed to use evasive maneuvers that were part of his police training."This was the direct result of that secondary, very violent crash where Sgt. Rowe was not paying attention to the roadway in front of him," Waddle said.The defense conceded that Levi was driving too fast in connection with the initial crash, but said "thankfully" there were no significant injuries as a result.Giovanna Dominguez -- who was expected to testify Wednesday -- did indicate during a preliminary hearing earlier this year that no one was injured as a result of the initial crash. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A woman was killed in a chain-reaction crash triggered by a loose dog in lanes of state Route 94 near downtown San Diego today.Three cars were involved in the crash, which was first reported just after 10:30 a.m. on westbound Route 94 near 25th Street.A Ford F-150 owned by the San Diego Humane Society was parked in the median of the freeway with the driver and a passenger still inside, preparing to capture a dog when the animal ran into lanes of traffic, a California Highway Patrol dispatcher told City News Service.Multiple cars stopped and swerved, including a Toyota Camry with three occupants that braked and came to a stop in the No. 1 lane, the dispatcher said.A Dodge truck, also in the No. 1 lane, swerved into the median to avoid the Camry, and was struck in the right rear corner by a GMC Yukon towing a trailer that was unable to stop in time.The force of the impact pushed the Dodge into the Camry, which in turn pushed the Camry into the Humane Society pickup, according to the dispatcher.In the aftermath of the accident, it wasn't immediately clear how many cars were involved, but responding fire crews realized the Camry, which at some point had moved to the right shoulder of the freeway, was also part of the crash and launched a rescue operation for that car's occupants, according to a CHP incident log.A 53-year-old woman in the back seat of the Camry sustained a major head injury and was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries, the dispatcher said.The woman's identity wasn't immediately released.Three other people, including two from the Camry and one from the GMC, 1652

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Multiple local and nonprofit organizations around San Diego County will host Christmas meals Tuesday for underserved and low-income residents.Salvation Army San Diego will host its 35th annual Christmas meal, beginning at 11 a.m. at Golden Hall at 202 C St. The organization expects hundreds of volunteers to assist with the event. Volunteers will escort attendees to their seats and serve them a traditional holiday meal.Serving Seniors will also host its annual Christmas meal for low- income and homeless San Diego County seniors, many of whom would otherwise spend the holiday alone. About 350 seniors will enjoy a meal of Cornish hen with Mornay sauce, cornbread dressing, whipped potatoes, green peas and carrot cake, according to the organization. The meal begins at 11 a.m. at 1525 Fourth Ave.Rev. Shane Harris, former president of the National Action Network, will host his second annual community Christmas breakfast at the National Black Contractors Association. Attendees will receive a free hot breakfast, free clothes and children will receive free gifts.The event begins at 7 a.m. at 6125 Imperial Ave. According to Harris, the breakfast is open to the public, but foster families, low-income residents, homeless residents and military veterans are all encouraged to attend. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Carlsbad-based Callaway Golf Co. announced Wednesday it has agreed to buy driving-range chain Topgolf Entertainment Group in an all-stock transaction valued at billion.The merger combines Callaway, a global golf equipment company, with Topgolf, which made its name as a party-golf attraction for players at all skill levels. Topgolf's driving ranges allow players to track their golf balls electronically and play against other groups nearby while ordering food and drinks.Callaway already owned 14 percent of Topgolf and first invested in the company in 2006."Together, Callaway and Topgolf create an unrivaled golf and entertainment business," said Chip Brewer, president and CEO of Callaway.
