The Southeastern Conference decided Thursday that they are only playing SEC teams this season amid the coronavirus pandemic.The SEC will play 10-conference games. They also decided to push their kickoff date to September 26 and the Championship Game will be played on December 19."This new plan for a football schedule is consistent with the educational goals of our universities to allow for the safe and orderly return to campus of their student populations and to provide a healthy learning environment during these unique circumstances presented by the COVID-19 virus," SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said in a news release. "This new schedule supports the safety measures that are being taken by each of our institutions to ensure the health of our campus communities."A revised football schedule, which will first need to be approved by SEC athletic directors will be sent out at a later date, conference officials said.The SEC joins the Pac-12 and Big Ten conferences to be playing conference-only games.According to The Associated Press, the ACC will play an 11-game schedule with one non-conference game. 1120

According to the US Elections Project maintained by University of Florida professor Michael McDonald, more than 80 million voters have already submitted a ballot. Millions more are expect to vote between now and Election Day.In Texas, the number of early votes equals 95% of the total ballots cast in 2016. Part of what has driven the vote in Texas is for the first time in the 21st century, Texas is considered a battleground in the presidential election. In Travis County, which is where Austin and University of Texas is located, more voters have cast ballots there than in the 2016 election.Who is winning the early vote?According to a CNN poll released on Wednesday, Joe Biden is leading among those who have already voted by a 64-34 margin. Other national polls have similarly showed Biden leading early voting by up to a 2-to-1 margin.The challenge for Trump will be to make-up ground on Election Day. The same CNN poll showed Trump leading 59-36 among those who plan on voting on Election Day. Trump will need a strong Election Day turnout in order to overcome the lead Biden has likely established in early voting. Things like weather, daycare, illnesses, work and other factors that keep people from voting on Election Day could play against Trump on Election Day.While the news out of Texas may be discouraging for Trump, Pennsylvania and Ohio, two other key battleground states, have not seen nearly as much early voting as Texas. In Ohio, the early vote equals 43.8% of the total 2016 vote. In Pennsylvania, the early vote equals 34.3% of the 2016 vote.Similarly to Texas, Georgia, which has been a traditional GOP stronghold in recent decades, is a battleground state in 2020. There, the number of early voters equals 82% of the 2016 count.How votes will be tallied on Election DayEach state will release early voting numbers differently, and with such stark differences in how Trump and Biden voters are casting ballots, the numbers could have significant swings.In Pennsylvania, the early vote is expected to come in last after all ballots counted on Election Day are tallied. That means Pennsylvania will likely show a significant lead for Trump on Election Night, with the former vice president trying to make up ground. Some counties have said they will not even start counting the early vote until the day after the election.In close states that release the early vote first, Biden will likely amass a huge lead that will slowly evaporate throughout the night. For states that will wait to count the early vote, Trump will likely hold a huge initial lead. The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces have detained a US citizen who had been fighting with ISIS in Syria, a US military official told CNN Thursday.The official added that it appeared that the American citizen surrendered to Kurdish elements of the Syrian Democratic Forces.A spokesperson for the US-led coalition fighting ISIS would not confirm that a US citizen was in the custody of the SDF, referring questions to the US State Department."We have seen those same reports and the SDF as our partner has taken an oath to make sure that any fighters that they capture that they maintain them and bring them to the proper authorities. In this case the proper authorities would be the equivalent of the department of state in the country," Col. Ryan Dillon told reporters at the Pentagon via a video conference from Baghdad."If this was a US citizen it would be the Department of State to find out the updates on that particular person," Dillon added.A State Department official told CNN that the department was aware of the reports but said that they "have no information to share at this time."The Justice Department and the FBI also declined to comment.The Daily Beast was first to report that a US citizen had been detained by the SDF.This isn't the first US citizen fighting for ISIS to be detained by US allies in the region. The state of Michigan has agreed on a 0 million settlement in lawsuits regarding the Flint Water Crisis, Attorney General Dana Nessel announced Thursday.The settlement will be given to parties who claim they were affected by the city of Flint's 2014 transition of its public water supply to the Flint River; the majority of the money will be going to settle claims filed on behalf of children.The settlement was reached by the state parties and legal counsel after 18 months of negotiations.“Providing relief for the people of Flint and resolving these long-standing legal disputes has been a top priority for me since taking office,” Nessel said in a press release. “Flint residents have endured more than most, and to draw out the legal back-and-forth even longer would have achieved nothing but continued hardship. This settlement focuses on the children and the future of Flint, and the State will do all it can to make this a step forward in the healing process for one of Michigan’s most resilient cities. Ultimately, by reaching this agreement, I hope we can begin the process of closing one of the most difficult chapters in our State’s history and writing a new one that starts with a government that works on behalf of all of its people.”The preliminary agreement specifies that about 80 percent of the net settlement fund will be spent on claims of children who were minors when first exposed to the Flint River water, with a large majority of that amount to be paid for claims of children age 6 and younger, and earmarking 2 percent to go to special education services in Genesee County.
