URUMQI, May 21 (Xinhua) -- China's support package for the far-west Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region unveiled Thursday has become a hot topic for residents of the region who hailed the strategic plans that help bring prosperity to their hometown.Chinese President Hu Jintao said during a central work conference held in Beijing from Monday to Wednesday the region should undergo a spurt in development so that by 2015 its per capita gross domestic product reaches the national average.Incomes and access to basic public services should reach the average level of the country's western regions, he said."I have noticed that 'People's livelihood' is mentioned several times in the package. SANAA, April 11 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese medical mission arrived Sunday in the southern Yemeni province of Aden as part of a cooperation agreement between the two countries, state-run Saba news agency reported.The 45-strong mission will provide medical services to residents of the southern provinces of Aden, Lahij, Abyan and Hadramout, according to the report.The mission includes neurosurgeons, plastic surgeons, thoracic surgeons, pediatric surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, anesthesiologists and a number of administrative staff, Jamal Khadabish, director of the Aden-based al-Jomhoriya hospital, was quoted by Saba as saying.The mandate of the Chinese mission would last for one year in accordance with a protocol of health cooperation between Yemen and China, Khadabish noted.
KABUL, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Two Chinese hostages who have been held by Afghan militants for over three months were released Saturday, the Chinese embassy said here Sunday.Yin Juming, the embassy charge d'affaires, told Xinhua that the two Chinese nationals working with the China Railway 14 Bureau were set free by the militants in western Afghanistan's Faryab province.Zhang Fengqiang, an engineer, and Wu Yulin, a worker, were seized by militants who claimed to be Taliban insurgents on Jan. 16 enroute from the working site to the residence camp in the province, said the Chinese diplomat.The duo were awaiting the journey back to China to reunite with their families, he said.
