(KGTV) - Chula Vista Mayor Mary Salas outlined the city’s recent accomplishments and layed out its future goals in her fourth State of the City Address Tuesday night. Salas went over the growth and achievements San Diego County's second-largest city has seen over the last year, including neighborhood revitalization and the approval of the Bayfront Project. During the address, Salas spoke about events that drew large crowds over the last year.Salas said the city’s Fourth of July celebration in 2017 drew a crowd of 15,000 while more than 35,000 people attended HarborFest on the Bayfront.RELATED: Port of San Diego, Chula Vista moves forward with bayfront developmentThe Mayor also spoke about growth happening in Third Avenue Village citing the Lemon Fest, Taste of Third and Village Summer Nights in June. A popular topic throughout California in recent years is infrastructure. (KGTV) - A destructive fire which caused .5 million in damage to the Off Road Warehouse in Kearny Mesa was arson, federal investigators announced Friday. Flames destroyed the business and 12,700-square-foot building at 7915 Balboa Ave. on March 28. San Diego Fire-Rescue investigators requested help from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to determine the origin of the fire. RELATED: Animals rescued as fire burns Kearny Mesa off road businessThe ATF’s National Response Team, consisting of investigators, fire protection engineers, chemists, forensic mappers, accelerant detection canine teams, determined the fire was deliberately set. The fire is now an ongoing criminal investigation, the ATF said. Using data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the report found that 50 years ago, 76 percent of 26-year-olds in America lived with their spouse. Today, only 24 percent of 26-year-olds live with a spouse while they are more likely to live with a parent.The bureau also found that 17 percent of 26-year-olds live with an unmarried partner, 15 percent live with a non-family roommate and 10 percent live alone. In 2007, the year before the collapse of the housing market bubble, the composition of housing began to change.According to Apartment List, the economic recession, ballooning student debt and lack of affordable housing in cities with job opportunities placed pressure on young adults who, in previous generations, would have been able to start their own households. So what about the future? Apartment List says it expects the trend to continue as housing costs skyrocket. As rents rise, the site says roommates and co-living arrangements will become even more appealing. Despite the discouraging trend, there are solutions. A housing development in the South Bay aims to give San Diego renters a better chance to become homeowners. For those who are teachers, San Diego could begin to build affordable housing for employees and teachers struggling to make ends meet.
