Excessive alcohol use could increase your risk for all types of dementia, particularly early-onset dementia, according to a new study.The study, published Tuesday in the journal Lancet Public Health,?looked at over 1 million adults released from French hospitals between 2008 and 2013 who were diagnosed with dementia, a clinical syndrome characterized by a progressive deterioration in cognitive ability.Using data from the French National Hospital Discharge database, the researchers found that alcohol-use disorders were diagnosed in 16.5% of the men with dementia and 4% of the women with dementia -- over twice as much as in those without dementia for both sexes.Alcohol-use disorders refer to "the chronic harmful use of alcohol or alcohol dependence," the researchers wrote.In order to isolate the role of alcohol use, patients with neurological disorders such as Parkinson's and Huntington's, which can also lead to dementia, were excluded from the study."The most novel result is the large contribution of alcohol-use disorders to the burden of dementia over the lifespan," said Dr. Michael Schwarzinger, a researcher at the Transitional Health Economics Network in Paris and a leading author of the study.The association was particularly strong for those with early-onset dementia, diagnosed when the patient is younger than 65. (KGTV) - The dramatic collapse of a tree in front of an Escondido family’s home was caught on camera during a Red Flag Warning Tuesday.Mike and Selene Neumann woke up to howling winds early Tuesday morning at their home on Pico de la Loma.Selene walked out to record video and saw a 60-foot tall tree laying across the yard and the top of their 1997 BMW Z3 Roadster.The tree, an Italian Cypress, mangled the convertible top, shattered the windows, and bent the door.When the Neumanns saw the video from their Ring camera, they were “astounded”.The fallen tree had been in place since the home was built in 1979.Experts checked out other trees on the Neumann’s property and removed a similar Italian Cypress near the uprooted tree. 756

ESCONDIDO (CNS) - A 47-year-old Escondido man was killed when he lost control of his pickup truck and slammed head-on into a car in Escondido, seriously injuring its driver, authorities said Friday.The crash happened shortly before 2:05 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Del Dios and Mount Israel roads, California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Smale said.A 47-year-old man behind the wheel of a 2006 Toyota Tundra pickup was heading eastbound at a high speed on Del Dios Road -- which was slick because of rain -- when he lost control of the pickup at a left-hand curve in the road and the truck began to spin, Smale said.The truck rotated once counterclockwise and crossed over into the opposite lane of traffic, where the front of the truck struck the front of a 2013 Subaru Crosstrek sedan with a 27-year-old woman from Encinitas behind the wheel, the officer said.The Toyota driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene, Smale said. ESCONDIDO (CNS) - A 31-year-old man was jailed Tuesday on suspicion of seriously injuring another man with a hatchet during a fight at an Escondido transit center, police said. Dispatchers received a call around 9:40 p.m. Monday from a person who reported that two men were fighting at the Escondido Transit Center on West Valley Parkway, west of Centre City Parkway, Escondido police Sgt. Mike Graesser said. Officers responded to the scene and found both men near the transit center suffering from serious injuries, Graesser said.
