The new edition, which took five years to complete, has more than 127,200 entries and over 16,000 pictures. It had removed 7,000 outdated or rarely used terms and included 12,300 new ones. The latest edition has been on sale in major cities such as Beijing and Shanghai. The first edition of Cihai came out in 1936. It has been revised every 10 years and this year was published ahead of the National Day on Oct. 1.

BEIJING, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao Monday asked auditors to keep a close eye on public investment projects to help avoid embezzlement and waste of public funds. Jerry-built projects and vanity projects should be strictly forbidden with the help of closer follow-up scrutiny of public funds, said the premier in a meeting with participants at a national auditing conference. The National Audit Office (NAO) statistics showed that altogether 234.7 billion yuan (34.51 billion U.S. dollars) of public funds have been misappropriated and 16.3 billion yuan wasted during the first 11 months this year. Air Force One touched down at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport in heavy rain at about 23:10. This is Obama's first state visit to China since he assumed the presidency in January. He is also the first U.S. president who paid a state visit to China within one year in office. This year marks the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the People's Republic of China and the United States. BEIJING, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- The output value of China's energy saving and environmental protection industry would hit 2.8 trillion yuan (412 billion U.S. dollars) by 2012, said Xie Zhenhua, deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission on Sunday. Those sectors have become a new economic growth point and have bright prospects in China, Xie said at the fourth China-Japan Energy-saving and Environment Protection Forum which began Sunday. He said the government will beef up investment in the construction of resource recycling projects, which will directly boost the industry development. He noted the government will further reform the pricing system of the resource products. Enterprises should also enhance innovation to break technological bottleneck notably in the development of clean coal transfer technology and pollutants treatment facilities. China has been pushing for a national energy saving campaign to address the worsening conflicts between economic growth and environmental deterioration.
