During the week as results were being compiled, a number of international leaders were careful not to speak out on Tuesday's presidential election. Now that President-Elect Joe Biden has been projected to win the election, leaders across the world have sent their congratulations to Biden, who will take office on January 20, 2021.“On behalf of the Government of Canada, I congratulate Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on their election as the next President and Vice President of the United States of America,” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said.“Canada and the United States enjoy an extraordinary relationship – one that is unique on the world stage. Our shared geography, common interests, deep personal connections, and strong economic ties make us close friends, partners, and allies. We will further build on this foundation as we continue to keep our people safe and healthy from the impacts of the global COVID-19 pandemic, and work to advance peace and inclusion, economic prosperity, and climate action around the world.”UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, someone generally seen as an ally of President Donald Trump, sent this tweet: 1154
EL CAJON (KGTV): Christmas season is always busy at Family Christmas Tree Farms in El Cajon. But this year, they've been busy for months, trying to save their crop.Excessive heat and drought in the summer, combined with an unusually warm fall, had a significant impact on their Monterrey Pines.During July and August, when temperatures reached 100 degrees, the farm doubled the amount of water it gave the trees.Meanwhile, warm weather in the fall kept the trees growing longer than usual. That meant they needed more maintenance than previous years.RELATED: Where to pick up a fresh Christmas tree in San DiegoManager Tyler Stokes says all the extra work and water has forced the company to raise prices, by a few dollars per tree."This is probably the most significant season we've had in terms of extra time and effort we're putting into the trees," he says. It's not just San Diego. Stokes says the prices on the trees they buy from the Northwest are also more expensive. That's because areas of Washington and Oregon also had unusually warm years.Fortunately, he says, the trees handled the heat well, and they didn't lose any of the crops. Family Christmas Tree Farms will still open as scheduled, the day after Thanksgiving."It's a San Diego Christmas out here," says Stokes. 1289
EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - In a vigil of hope held Friday night, at least 60 people shared their homes that an El Cajon teen who is reported missing in Phoenix would soon be found. Nineteen-year-old Kiera Bergman grew up in El Cajon and went to Valhalla High School, her aunt, Mindy Tarantino told 10News. The teen moved to Phoenix earlier this year with her boyfriend. Bergman's roommate reported her missing Monday when she didn’t return home and had not shown up to work.“We were told she left her house without her purse, without her car, why would she do that,” Tarantino said. “This isn't in her character. She doesn't stop communicating with people.”Kiera’s mother and sister are in Phoenix waiting for any word from the police. Meantime, her family and friends in El Cajon lit candles and prayed for her safe return.“We haven’t slept in this whole week. It’s just horrible,” Tarantino told the crowd, reminding them to stay optimistic. “Somebody is going to crack and lead us to her.” 1014
EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - The San Diego Air & Space Museum will soon unveil the latest addition to its impressive collection, a rare plane that had long been owned by hotel mogul Barron Hilton. The plane is a Beech Aircraft "staggerwing" built in 1943. Museum President and CEO Jim Kidrick told 10News the plane is famous among aviation fans worldwide and that many famous pilots have flown inside. The stagger wing was considered one of the few high-end recreational and business planes of its time.Kidrick says the plane is just the latest exciting addition to be displayed at the Museum's popular Annex at Gillespie Field in El Cajon. "As a former Navy fighter pilot, there's nothing more exciting than being around aircraft, in general. It's cooler than cool. It takes you back to being a little kid."Complete Coverage: Life in El CajonHe says hopes the stagger wing and the other planes in the collection will continue to inspire children to seek out future careers in aviation."This is a hotbed in the Southwest United States and San Diego has always been a leader. In the next 30 years, we're going places and this is a great inspiration to those young people who want to go places."The San Diego Air & Space Museum Annex is nearing its 50th anniversary at Gillespie Field. The airfield was originally constructed by the Air Force as a paratrooper training ground during World War II. After the war, ownership of the airfield was transferred to San Diego County. 1485
Dr. Deborah Birx says she will help with a Biden Administration transition and then “I will retire.”“I want the Biden Administration to be successful,” Birx said in an interview with Newsy. “I will be helpful in any role people think I can be helpful in, and then I will retire.”The Coronavirus Task Force member said her family motivated her decision.“This experience has been a bit overwhelming. It's been very difficult on my family,” Birx told Amber Strong in a clip shared on Twitter. Birx talked about her parents and family members who have been isolated for ten months and have become depressed, “as I’m sure many elderly have.” 644
