Feeding San Diego’s goal is to eliminate these worries and end food insecurity in San Diego. According to Feeding San Diego, giving kids healthy food options will help them succeed in the classroom. “It helps with the snacks and the munching. Instead of some chips or candy, they get some fruits and vegetables up in their system. It makes me feel like a good mom,” Cynthia Correa said. Correa is a mom of four and is part of Feeding San Diego's program in Oceanside, where she visits San Luis Rey Elementary school each month to pick out fresh fruits, vegetables, and other items for her and her family. Correa says the free access has given her some financial relief. “Healthier food seems to be more expensive than junk food. So, it has helped my family a lot. It’s taking the weight off,” Correa said. Camacho says he has seen a significant change in the children's behavior. “I’ve seen their attitudes change. They include Dan McKinney, Jackie Robinson, Magdalena Ecke, McGrath Family, and the Mission Valley branches.But with ever-changing rules by the State and County, staff and members of the YMCA understand that this reopening may be short-lived.Twice a day, Doug Harrigan would come to the Mission Valley YMCA. But since the COVID-19 quarantine began, he switched to working out at home."It's been rough," Harrigan said.Now he's back."I had a chance to talk to the members that I used to see on a regular basis, and it just felt good to do a real workout in a gym rather than my living room."Starting July 1, 2020, Mission Valley, Dan McKinney (La Jolla), Jackie Robinson (Mt. Hope), Magdalena Ecke (Encinitas), and McGrath Family (Spring Valley) YMCA branches are open, at a modified capacity."Masks required, health check stations, signage everywhere, and we've separated the fitness equipment to the 6-foot social distancing requirements," Assistant Executive Director of the Mission Valley YMCA, Jason Milosh said.At this point, group exercise classes and pools remain closed.Last week, some branches, including Mission Valley, opened up its Kids Day Camps. This year, space is extremely limited due to social distancing rules, and there will not be any field trips. But parents are happy that they are keeping busy."Summer learning loss has been aggravated by the challenges that our school system has had in the last few months of school," Molish said. "So, we have incorporated some more academic components to our summer camps to help kids bridge that summer learning loss."But with the State and County coming out with new rules, seemingly every week, gyms and community centers like the YMCA, must be flexible."Re-closing is a possibility, and we are prepared for that," Milosh said. "We feel good about the precautions that we have taken, but if things worsen and it is determined that we need to close, then we are going to be prepared to do that."But for Harrigan, he hopes it does not come down to that, because with the YMCA, he says he would look and feel much different."It is essential. If I did not work out, I'd probably be 250 pounds," Harrigan laughed.On July 8, 2020, four more San Diego County YMCA branches will open. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Each day that the courts in San Diego are closed, an already daunting case load grows.The closure leaves San Diegans wondering if, and when, they’ll get justice.According to the San Diego Superior Court, “On Tuesday, May 26, the Court will resume many services, though most will be provided remotely. With the community spread of COVID-19 still a concern, in-person services at the courthouses will continue to be limited to urgent needs.” The court said it’s in the process of sending out rescheduling notices to the parties involved in more than 87,000 hearings.To help cut down the backlog in the civil arena, a group of attorneys is working together to ensure San Diegans have an opportunity to have their case either mediated or have their dispute handled. It’s called RESOLVE Law San Diego.“Without some mechanism to try and deal with these cases, like a settlement conference or mediation, there's really no way for a person who's involved in a lawsuit to have their things resolved,” said attorney Benjamin Bunn.“We have in San Diego over a dozen calendar departments, each of those departments has over 1,000 cases assigned to it, and every Friday each of those independent calendar departments have law and motion hearings that involved at least a dozen and usually two dozen or more cases,” explained attorney William Low. “All of those hearings have been put on hold for the last eight weeks. Nothing has been happening to resolve those cases. RESOLVE Law San Diego is specifically targeted to help those litigants resolve those matters sooner rather than later.”RESOLVE Law San Diego will give people involved in civil cases the opportunity to connect with a retired judge or a qualified local attorney who will agree to hear matters free of charge.“If you go to court right now you might not get a hearing date until November, but if you want to use RESOLVE Law, you’re going to have a hearing within the next two weeks,” said attorney Amy Martell.According to the group, it’s not a court-sponsored program; it is both voluntary and by stipulation of the parties only. The program will only last for a set amount of time and is designed to streamline the law and motion and mediation process so that cases can move forward while the court reopens and manages its caseload.So far more than 175 people have signed up to volunteer their time."By the program that we have set up, we have very good lawyers and retired judges volunteering their free time over the next 120 days to help resolve issues and to help get the court system moving again,” said attorney David Casey.The attorneys involved said hearings will be handled over the phone or through teleconferencing, a safe and easy way to communicate during COVID-19.The program aims to give people a little certainty in times that are anything but that."It will help them get justice quicker, sooner, with less frustrations,” said attorney Heather Rosing.According to the RESOLVE Law website, this type of venture is the first of its kind in the state designed to provide civil litigants an alternative and free venue for dispute resolution during this crisis.In a statement to 10News, San Diego Superior Court Presiding Judge Lorna Alksne wrote, “This effort is a great example of San Diego’s lawyers and retired judges coming together to help the community obtain resolutions of their disputes and to help reduce the backlog of cases due to the pandemic.” 3450

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Harbor Police are investigating after a boat caught fire early Sunday morning in the San Diego Bay.The department tweeted around 5 a.m. about the fire at Marina Cortez.According to police, a good Samaritan helped put out the fire before units arrived on scene. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — FBI investigators are searching for a yellow Chevrolet Camaro in connection with an incident at a local park in May.Investigators say the individuals associated with the vehicle may have been a witness to the incident on May 31, 2020, at Kenmore Terrace Mini Park. The FBI did not elaborate on the incident.The Camaro is described as a two-door coupe with bright yellow paint and is believed to be a fifth-generation model year (2010-2015). In contrast to the yellow paint on the body of the Camaro, the hood, trunk, and spoiler are black. The vehicle also has a sunroof.
