SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diegans could see a bit of relief from rising housing prices, according to a Zillow housing report.The report claims that 20 percent of listings in June saw a price cut, compared to only 12 percent of homes that had their prices cut a year ago. Similarly, the increase in home values has slowed, and is expected to see even slower growth over the next year.While the rise in home values has seen a slight decrease, they’re still on the rise. The median price in the county is now 3,700, up 6.6 percent from a year earlier."Now with prices being so high, we decided to move to Arizona where prices are more affordable," said Eric Oster, who rents an apartment in the Kearny Mesa area.Zillow expects that rate of appreciation to decline to 4.7 percent by next year. Still, the cooling home price growth is being offset by higher interest rates, which increases monthly payments. "The key is, if you're going to buy a home, the biggest question is - can I afford the payments, and if you're stretching yourself too thin it doesn't matter what the market's doing," said Bridget Potterton, a San Diego Real Estate Broker.The median home value in the US is currently 7,300. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police announced Friday the arrest of a man suspected of sexually assaulting a woman in East Village.Gary Cushinberry, 51, dragged the woman into some bushes near 13th Street and Island Avenue about 11:30 p.m. on November 5, police said. After the assault, Cushinberry ran west toward Island Avenue, police said.The woman had been walking alone to her car when she was attacked.The San Diego Police Department’s Sex Crimes Unit released a composite sketch of the suspect the following day. Through tips and leads, investigators identified Cushinberry as the suspect.Police found Cushinberry Friday morning in the 200 block of 17th Street. He was arrested on several sex assault charges and taken to San Diego County Central Jail.Officers also confirmed that Cushinberry had an outstanding warrant for theft in Allen County, Indiana.Police are asking anyone with information to call the SDPD Sex Crimes Unit at 619-531-2210. 975

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Rideshare drivers all over California are on strike protesting recent pay cuts by both Uber and Lyft. A small but vocal group of the drivers gathered at the San Diego airport Monday morning, opting to take part in a statewide protest against the companies they say are taking money out of their pockets. Recently, Uber announced it would be cutting drivers wage from 80 cents per mile to 60 cents. Workers say that’s on top of other cuts they’ve dealt with over the years. Drivers who spoke with 10News say other states like New York require companies to pay a minimum rate of more than per hour. Uber and Lyft both issued statements after the protest.Uber said in part, “…we're introducing a new Quest promotion feature, while also changing the per minute, per mile and minimum fare rates. These changes will make rates comparable to where they were in September."Lyft told 10News: "We are always open to conversations around how we can make Lyft better for drivers, but what we hear from the majority is that this is a flexible option that works for them." 1090

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County health officials are focusing their efforts to reduce COVID-19 cases in hard-hit disadvantaged communities.Since the state released its tiered reopening system, County officials have closely monitored case rates and positivity rates, the two metrics that move counties between restrictive and less restrictive tiers.Now, the state has added a new metric relating to equity. It focuses on disadvantaged communities. The state looked at several factors that influence health in communities, including economics, education, transportation, social, neighborhood/environment, and housing conditions. The metric is meant to focus on those communities and their risk to COVID-19.At a news conference Wednesday, County officials say they are working to create a plan to address equity and submit to the state next Thursday. They also say the state will release additional guidelines on Monday.The county's health equity rate is at 6.2, which falls under the red tier. That number needs to drop below 5.2 to meet the orange tier criteria.San Diego County is currently already operating in the red tier based on the other two metrics. The county's positivity rate is at 3.5, Which meets the criteria for the orange tier. But the county's state calculated adjusted case rate is 6.5 new daily infections per 100-thousand people, which falls in the red tier. The red tier allows many businesses to reopen their indoor operations, though at a limited capacity.County officials said the new health equity metric does not play a factor in moving San Diego back into a restrictive tier. But it does play a role in moving to a less restrictive tier.County health officials have been working to reduce COVID-19 cases in disadvantaged communities through outreach and education, testing, and contact tracing, but feel more could be done."Undoubtedly, there's more we can do," Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said. "So even though we've done all of those things and continue to do those things, we will continue to search out more opportunities to address the inequity issues in trying to help those communities who are most impacted." 2153

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County is letting voters know that they have options when it comes to dropping off their mail ballots.The county says voters can send in their mail ballots, drop them off at the Registrar of Voters in Kearny Mesa or drop them off at any of the 41 additional sites throughout the county.According to the county, the faster the ballots are returned, the quicker they can be prepared for counting on election night.The 41 drop-off locations are not early voting locations, but for mail ballots only, the county says.Click on the map below for a full list of drop-off location: “More than 1 million San Diego County voters use mail ballots, and that number continues to rise,” said Registrar Michael Vu. “The early drop-off sites are convenient for the voter, they help with the timely return of mail ballots and decrease the high volume of voters dropping off mail ballots at polling places on Election Day.”   960
