During the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, many couples turned to Zoom and other virtual video platforms so they could still get married in front of loved ones. But as the pandemic continues, a lot of couples are now back to holding weddings in-person. With a little bit of distance between guests."I definitely think it’s going to be a thought on everybody’s mind whether: do you keep smaller numbers or do you have the large numbers you originally wanted and you just space the chairs? Do you have to have more tables and more people per table?" said Braden Sutton, a wedding planner, day-of coordinator and ordained minister with JBS Weddings and Events in Georgia. He, like other wedding planners across the country, saw soon-to-be wed couples panic when the pandemic first erupted in the spring."Of course they want the big wedding they planned but they don't know what to do because they don't want to cut people off of the list and they don't want to hurt anybody’s feelings," said Sutton.Six months into the pandemic, Sutton says more couples are turning to socially-distanced weddings, making accommodations at their venues and sometimes shortening their guest lists to still have an in-person celebration as safely as possible. "Because we’ve all seen a few things on social media about large numbers of COVID cases happening at weddings and other gatherings, nobody wants that to be their wedding. Definitely it's possible, just play it smart," said Sutton.Courtney Saxon and Kayla Zachery began planning their Georgia wedding nearly a year ago. "And honestly, in the beginning I think we both were like, 'Oh, everything will be fine by November we’re not going to have to worry about it,'" said Saxon. They soon realized, if they wanted to keep their wedding date, they'd need to make a few adjustments. Chairs at the ceremony will be spaced and fewer people will be seated at each table."Ideally what will happen is everyone will sit as a family unit. So if you live together, of course you're already around one another. We're just trying to keep everyone essentially around people they came with," said Saxon.They'll also have hand sanitizing stations at food tables and all entrances, plus a video live stream of the event for those guests who can't attend in person. While the wedding won't look exactly how they envisioned, the two have a positive outlook for their special day. "To me, the most important thing is that at the end of the day I get to marry my best friend. That's really all I care about. It doesn't matter if everything goes exactly as I hoped or we planned because no matter if you get married in a pandemic or not, things are bound and determined to go wrong," said Saxon."What do they have to do to make sure they're safe, guests are safe and another part is just the venue what they require," said Sutton. Sutton is also planning his own wedding which is supposed to take place in March. He believes most couples will be planning socially-distanced weddings through the end of 2021. 3029

EL CAJON (KGTV) — Some amateur detective work by an East County business owner helped deputies track down two men suspected of stealing a popular wrought iron horse statue.Deputies arrested 56-year-old Percy Hill in Arizona and 62-year-old Rick Freeman near Lakeside on Friday.The men are accused of stealing the 10-foot-tall horse statue from outside the Double S Tack and Feed Store in unincorporated El Cajon on October 2. The statue weighs about 250 pounds, said owner Rita Gallant, somewhat lighter than initial estimates.After the theft, Gallant gathered surveillance video from nearby businesses and solicited tips on social media from the East County community.The video showed two vehicles were involved in the heist, including a distinctive Suzuki Samurai with a yellow flag mounted on a window, Gallant said. But the big break came on October 22, she said. Employees sounded the alarm when two men pulled up in the same Suzuki Samurai with the yellow flag. The men asked about purchasing yard art. Gallant thinks they were actually scoping out more things to steal."Not very smart," she said.After the store posted pictures and videos of the second encounter, a tipster was able to identify one of the men and deputies made arrests in two states."I never dreamed at all that I would ever get the horse back. I just wanted to make sure the people that stole him paid for it," she said.Gallant said she spoke with investigators who interviewed the suspects. "The gentleman took it for his yard," Gallant said. "He was doing a western theme."She drove the roughly 250-pound statue home from Arizona Monday night in a horse trailer. The statue was damaged during the burglary and poorly welded back together, but Gallant said she has plans to make it even better than before.She plans to re-weld the statue with a concrete base — possibly with steps to allow customers to take pictures — and a new sign on the bottom."Double S, one. EL CAJON (KGTV) -- A group firefighters battling a house fire in El Cajon rescued two of their own from under burning debris Tuesday morning.Heartland Fire & Rescue crews were called to a two-story structure fire in the 1300 block of Helix View Drive around 3 a.m. and discovered a home fully engulfed with flames reaching as high as 50-feet.As firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, a burning section of the home collapsed trapping two of them. Both were quickly pulled out from under the rubble.One of the firefighters was treated and transported to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries. The condition of the second firefighter is unknown at this time.The homeowner told 10News that all family members were able to evacuate the burning home safely. The fire has since been extinguished but crews remain on scene. 837

EL CAJON (CNS) - A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed in El Cajon, authorities said Friday morning.Officers responded to the intersection of Washington and South Orange avenues about 11 p.m. Thursday, where they found a woman in her 50s with significant head injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Lt. Jeremiah Larson of the El Cajon Police Department.An investigation determined the woman was crossing the road when she was struck by the vehicle traveling westbound on Washington Avenue, Larson said. It was unclear whether the woman was in a marked crosswalk at the time of the crash.Alcohol or drugs were not considered factors in the crash, he said, but no other details were released.The name of the victim was not disclosed. 771
