BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Police responded to multiple reports of shots fired at Town Center Mall in Boca Raton on Sunday, but later determined that no shots had been fired.“The tips seem to center around a loud noise that occurred," Boca Raton Police Chief Dan Alexander said.According to Alexander, one person who was originally reported to have suffered a gunshot wound was hurt when he hit his head on a door while fleeing the scene.“I hear a boom! And I thought that boom was like a balloon or someone falling or something, but as I look back … I see a bunch of kids yelling and crying and screaming, 'run, run, run, a shooter!'" eyewitness Stephanie Silva said.Detectives were able to recover both blood and hair on that door.Alexander said no weapon, casings or rounds of ammunition were found at the scene.“We have not identified any suspect, no gunshots or gunfire," Alexander said. “Right now we’re currently combing with assistance of ATF, they have dogs that can determine that, so that will be a focus of our investigation.”According to Alexander, the tips they received centered around a loud noise that occurred.“The important thing to remember is that something happened in that mall today to cause people to get concerned, a lot of people," he said.At this time detectives do not know what made the loud noise that caused the panic. Brother and sister Paul and Angelica Gallegos have spent a lot more time together this past school year. That’s because their school district, 27J outside Denver, became the first district in a major metropolitan area to switch to a four-day school week.And at first, it was a scary idea for mom Crystal.“I was a little freaked out,” Gallegos said.She had to convince her employer to let her work from home, since her kids would now be there every Monday. So far, she says the new school schedule hasn’t been that hard to get used to.“I like it, but that’s because I get to spend time with my kids,” she said.Every Monday they’ve come to a local state park where the kids volunteer.“We feed the animals we feed the birds,” said 12 year old Angelica. “On certain days we take kids on trail walks.”But asked if they prefer the new shorter weeks in class?“[I’d] go back to the old way,” says 9-year-old Paul. “I’d rather have school Mondays then stay an extra hour.”To make their weeks shorter, the four classroom days have to be longer. And then there’s homework.“This year, we did almost two hours of homework a night ,” said mom Crystal. “And then she plays softball, so that on top of practice, on top of—it was just a lot for her this year.”The Roberts family just down the block has mixed feelings. Kendra, 12, who uses the extra day to hangout with friends, grins from ear to ear when asked if she likes it.“Yea,” she says smiling.Mom Alecia Roberts sees pros and cons.“We have more family time on the weekends because then we can focus on other things during Mondays,” Roberts said. “But I still work on Mondays.”District superintendent Chris Fiedler says the biggest reason for the change was to attract more qualified teacher applicants. CAPE CANAVERAL, Fa. — Weather conditions threatening to scrub the nation’s first astronaut launch in nine years are improving, NASA said Tuesday.The latest report from officials estimated the highly anticipated flight had a 60% chance of liftoff, up from 40% the day prior.“As of right now, we are go for launch,” NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine said during a news conference. “The trend is in the right direction, and we are very, very excited.”The historic mission is a collaboration between NASA and Elon Musk’s SpaceX.Veteran astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley are set to take the Crew Dragon spacecraft on its first human-crewed and final test flight to the International Space Station. The US has been paying Russia to fly personnel to the ISS since the termination of its shuttle program in 2011.“We hoped to be flying people by 2014,” said Scott Altman, a former NASA astronaut. “It’s now 2020, and we’re only on the cusp, but we are here.”Altman said a successful flight could be a giant leap forward for the future of American space travel. He and others hoped the public/private partnership would help pave the way for the commercial sector to handle more routine missions soon.
