During Tuesday’s Supreme Court confirmation hearing, Sen. Lindsey Graham said “good old days of segregation” in a question to nominee Amy Comey Barrett when discussing a landmark 1954 high court ruling.On Wednesday, Graham claimed the comment was made in sarcasm."If anybody was listening to who I am and what I said, you know that it was the deep sarcasm that I suggested that some legislative body would want to yearn for the good old days of segregation,” Graham said on Wednesday. “The point that I'm trying to make is there is nobody in America in the legislative arena, wanting to take us back to that dark period in American history.”During Tuesday’s questioning, Graham asked, "And one of the reasons you can say with confidence that you think Brown versus Board of Education is super precedent is that you’re not aware of any effort to go back to the good old days of segregation by a legislative body, is that correct?"Graham is an unexpectedly tight race against Democrat Jamie Harrison for his seat in South Carolina. Harrison fired back at the senator.“Lindsay Graham just called segregation ‘the good old days,’” Harrison tweeted. “The good old days for who, Senator? It’s 2020, not 1920. Act like it.”Graham responded directly to Harrison’s quip.“And for my opponent to suggest that says far more about him than me,” Graham said. “I've been a United States Senator for three terms. I represent a state with 31% of an African American population. I want to make sure that everybody in my state moves forward. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - A man with dementia and schizophrenia has been missing from an El Cajon nursing facility for two weeks, and the family needs your help locating him. Sixty-six-year-old Agustin Cerda walked away from Avocado Post Acute Skilled Nursing Facility on March 4th and never returned. His family says he was allowed to leave the facility.Now they’ve posted flyers around the city in hopes that someone will recognize him and call police. They’ve also put his picture on Facebook and received over 200 shares. Cerda’s niece Aly Cerda said, “He may be sleeping on the streets, and we have a large homeless population so he can be anywhere. So it’s hard to say where to look next, but we’re going to keep our efforts in place to make sure he’s found safe.”Cerda had gone missing twice before but was found in Tijuana the next day at his brother’s house. If you see him, Aly asks that you call the police and not try to approach him because he has mental issues. 985

Don’t expect BLM and social justice messages on basketball courts or jerseys in the NBA next season, according to league Commissioner Adam Silver.The 2020 NBA season has gotten a lot of attention for both the league’s response to the coronavirus pandemic with a “bubble” and their public embrace of social justice issues and the Black Lives Matter movement this summer.During a NBA Countdown interview on ESPN ahead of a playoff game earlier this week, Silver was asked about the league championing social justice and civil rights, but as Silver noted in a press conference recently, that has not been universally popular.“How committed are you to being that going forward?” host Rachel Nichols asked.Silver quickly responded, “We’re completely committed to standing for social justice and racial equality. It’s part of the DNA of this league.”He then said changes could come in how that commitment is manifested. The commissioner acknowledged the league has to sit down with the players and discuss for next season.“I would say in terms of the messages you see on the court on our jerseys, this was an extraordinary moment in time, when we began the discussions with the players and what we all lived through this summer,” Silver said.In July, when the league restarted their 2020 season from a so-called bubble in Orlando, “Black Lives Matter” was painted on the court floor. Players, coaches and staff stayed in Orlando this summer and drastically limited contact with the outside world and other people, in order to stop the spread of the coronavirus.Also this season, players were allowed to put slogans or phrases on their jerseys to highlight causes they support.The league was also the first large sports group to protest playing games in the wake of the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin. That those messages will largely be left to be delivered off the floor. And I understand those people who are saying ‘I’m on your side, but I want to watch a basketball game,’” Silver said.As for when the next season will start, Silver says everyone with the league needs a rest, mentally and physically, and they don’t have an exact start date at this time. DOWNTOWN (CNS) - A man was stabbed Sunday in downtown San Diego, police said.At around 2:20 p.m., two men became involved in a physical altercation near the intersection of C Street and Seventh Avenue, and one stabbed the other twice in the stomach, San Diego Police Officer Dino Delimitros said.The victim, who was in his 50s, suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Delimitros said.The suspect is described as a man wearing black pants, and he remains at large. 497

EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - The City of El Cajon is days away from unveiling their new million dollar animal shelter to the public and gave 10News a sneak peek on Tuesday.The new shelter is double the size of the current facility, which was built in the 1950's, and features state-of-the-art amenities.The city believes it will dramatically improve the adoption experience for East County residents."With more room comes more ability to provide the standard of care expected for these types of animals," said Dirk Epperson, Director of Public Works for the City of El Cajon.The facility has a medical center and operating room as well as a full-service grooming station.There will also be several 'get to know you rooms' where potential adopters can get one-on-one time with the animals.Epperson says efficiency is a theme in the new facility, making it easier and more environmentally-friendly for shelter employees to do their jobs. The grand opening is Saturday, June 2 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m and adoption fees will be offered for all animals.The shelters will be closed from Tuesday, May 29 through Friday, June 1. However, special arrangements can be made for residents needing to drop off stray dogs or claim a pet.   1250
