Also, according to the DOT report for 2017, several of the animals had pre-existing health issues such as heart disease. (The report did not specify how many animals were flown in the cargo hold as opposed to the plane's cabin.)But even when accounting for their larger volume of animal passengers, United still leads all other airlines in rate of deaths per 10,000 pets.United did not respond to multiple requests for comment for this story. But spokesman Charlie Hobart told CNN on Tuesday that the airline is investigating the French bulldog's death "to prevent this from ever happening again."As for the 2017 report, he said, "The overwhelming majority of the incidents were attributed to animals not being acclimated to its crate or the animal having a pre-existing condition we weren't aware of. Any time there is an incident with animals we do a thorough review." 1612

Flywheel has filed for bankruptcy.The fitness company was in business for 10 years and once had 40 studios across the United States.Earlier this year, Flywheel lost a major legal battle to its competitor.Peloton sued Flywheel alleging the company copied its technology used to create the in-home bikes.The patent infringement case initially caused Flywheel to close only a dozen of its studios along with all virtual classes.The pandemic later forced the company to layoff nearly all staff and close all studios.Flywheel hasn't commented on the bankruptcy filing. 571

Former Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke is being criticized on social media after making homophobic comments while referencing the "locker room talk" war of words between President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden. Biden told a Florida crowd Tuesday that he would "beat the hell out of Trump" if they were in high school and Trump made lewd comments recorded during an Access Hollywood interview several years ago.Trump clapped back Thursday, calling Biden "mentally and physically" weak, and tweeting that Biden would "go down fast and hard, crying all the way." In a Wednesday tweet, Clarke zeroed in on Biden's comment that he's been around a lot of locker rooms in his life, and stated "Please tell us why and what you were doing hanging around all those locker rooms, Joe? Forty-four former Republican and Democratic US senators penned an op-ed for The Washington Post that warns "we are entering a dangerous period" and urges current and future senators to be "steadfast and zealous guardians of our democracy."The former senators write in the op-ed they feel an "obligation to speak up about serious challenges to the rule of law, the Constitution, our governing institutions and our national security.""We are on the eve of the conclusion of special counsel Robert S. Mueller III's investigation and the House's commencement of investigations of the President and his administration," the senators write. "The likely convergence of these two events will occur at a time when simmering regional conflicts and global power confrontations continue to threaten our security, economy and geopolitical stability."The US is at an "inflection point" the senators write, "in which the foundational principles of our democracy and our national security interests are at stake, and the rule of law and the ability of our institutions to function freely and independently must be upheld." 1124
