An Alaska Airlines flight from San Francisco to Philadelphia was forced to divert, all thanks to a belligerent passenger who tried twice to light up inside the cabin.Passengers boarding Alaska Airlines' red-eye flight 1138 in San Francisco were in for quite a surprise. Over halfway through the flight, they had to divert to Chicago.One of their fellow passengers tried to break one of the cardinal rules of modern air travel: do not smoke on airplanes. Then the passenger refused to comply with flight crew instructions by trying to light up a cigarette -- again.About an hour before they were supposed to land in Philadelphia, pilots were forced to divert to O'Hare International Airport."Due to a disruptive passenger onboard and out of an abundance of caution, the flight was diverted to Chicago and landed at 4:22 a.m. local time," Alaska Airlines told CNN.Chicago Police say they were asked to meet the plane because of the cigarette-lighting passenger, who "was somewhat belligerent."While the individual was escorted off the plane without incident, the diversion added an hour onto the other passengers' red-eye flight, since the plane needed refueling.It's unclear if the passenger will face any punishment for their actions. The FAA, which enforces the regulations the passenger violated, told CNN the incident is under investigation.Chicago Police say they did not make an arrest. American rock climber Brad Gobright has died after a fall in northern Mexico.The incident happened Wednesday at Sendero Luminoso in El Potrero Chico, the nation's civil protection agency said. Gobright, 31, of Orange County, California, was with a climbing partner when he fell nearly 985 feet.Rescuers retrieved his body Thursday and treated his climbing partner, Aidan Jacobson, for injuries to his ankle and other parts of his body.A fellow climber and a friend of the partner said Jacobson told him their rope got stuck, causing them to both fall 20-30 feet to the ledge below.Jacobson crashed into a bush, which broke his fall and stopped him from tumbling farther. "It pretty much saved his life," the friend, Ryan Borys, said. Jacobson told him he saw Gobright fall past him and over the ledge.The State Department confirmed Gobright's death in Mexico. "We offer our sincerest condolences to his family on their loss. We are closely monitoring local authorities' investigation and are providing all appropriate consular assistance. A U.S. Navy sailor killed two U.S. Department of Defense civilian employees and wounded an additional civilian at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam near Honolulu, Hawaii, on Wednesday. According to Rear Admiral Robert Chadwick of the U.S. Navy, security forces responded to a reported shooting at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard around approximately 2:30 p.m. local time. The base confirmed that access gates were closed. Nearly 90 minutes after the incident, the gates to the base were reopened.Chadwick confirmed that the suspect shot three male civilians before shooting himself.The names of the victims will not be released until the next of kin have been notified.More than 19,000 active duty are stationed at the base. The base employs more than 11,000 Department of Defense civilian employees. Total base population includes more than 66,300 Navy and Air Force active duty personnel, civilians and family members.The incident happened just three days before a remembrance of the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. 1026
