SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — City officials say 55 people at the San Diego Convention Center's emergency homeless shelter have tested positive for COVID-19, as cases surge around the country. The individuals who tested positive include those suffering from homelessness and staff at the center, according to the City of San Diego. Those homeless individuals who tested positive will be moved to a local hotel managed by the county for public health use. Staff who tested positive have been notified and advised to stay home. Positive individuals will be kept off-site until it is deemed safe for them to return. The county has made testing available to all staff and residents at the center to halt any further spread and is working to determine if there is an impact to others at the Convention Center.Prior to this round of testing, there had been less than 30 positive tests at the Convention Center over the last nine months, the city says. The city says that individuals utilizing the Convention Center and staff have a daily temperature check and verbal questionnaire and must wear a face covering, and staff clean and sanitize surfaces and hands frequently. The new positive cases as COVID-19 cases surge across the county and state. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Cat Kom spent Tuesday morning leading Studio Sweat’s spin and sculpt fusion class, a half-hour of spin, and a half-hour of strength.“It is hard but it feels so good,” Kom said after the session. The other thing adding to her jubilance: the fact that she could finally open her boutique gym's new location in Rancho Bernardo. She said it seems like a long time coming.Kom’s outlook was a lot different when she first spoke to 10News in April in the midst of the coronavirus shut down. She couldn't open her new gym, was still paying rent for the old 4S Ranch location, and, like many small business owners, was shut out from a federal stimulus Paycheck Protection Program loan.“We didn't lay a single person off,” she said at the time. “That was our plan and that's what we hoped to do. Now we're kind of going, oh my gosh I might have to lay people off.”Fast forward to Tuesday. Studio Sweat was in its fifth day of operation after restrictions lifted.Kom ultimately got an ,000 PPP loan and never had to lay anyone off.Still, hours are reduced as membership is only at 65% pre-coronavirus levels and she still owes full rent.“I kind of had these grand dreams that we were going to open up and everybody was going to come back, but that's just not the case,” Kom said.Kom spent a couple of thousand dollars outfitting studio sweat for safety, including more sanitation stations. She says, however, that if there does happen to be a second wave in the future, studio sweat will be more prepared to handle it and rebound faster. The governor's guidelines for gyms to reopen include physical distancing, and for patrons to bring their own towels. 1668

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - As a Hillcrest man showered in his apartment, an intruder was helping himself to a "priceless" pendant. The surveillance video that Ramon Castillo has seen countless times remains hard to watch."Scary and very disturbing," said Castillo. In late June on a Monday morning just before 9, Castillo was showering in his apartment on 3rd Avenue. What he didn't know know: he wasn't alone. When Castillo got out of the shower after 20 minutes, the screen door which had been locked was completely open. Surveillance video revealed why. In it, a man pauses at the door and somehow gets past the screen door, before quietly raiding the apartment. Among the items stolen were speakers and a safe from a bedroom closet. Inside the safe: cash, personal documents and jewelry, including a silver pendant containing the ashes of her mother. She passed away in 2015 from an accidental drug overdose."I can't replace that. It's the last thing of my mom and now I don't have anything," said Castillo. The thief who snatched it was in and out in about five minutes. He was seen driving off in a sedan. Castillo say the burglar had to have heard the shower running and went in anyways."He didn't think twice about it. I fear for the next person he goes after ... he might harm someone," said Castillo. If you do have information on the case, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 1399

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Dawn Hendon knows a thing or two when it comes to the big day for couples, she was a wedding planner then became an officiant over the past 10 years."It's a happy business, I like to be around people for joyous occasions and weddings are always a happy event so I thought this is a happy thing, and today we need all the joy we can find," Hendon said.Recently, she's added a backyard chapel at her San Marcos home to her list of services. "I even have shoes, accessories, floral head pieces, boutonnieres for guys and tuxedos for men."Love Wedding Chapel is what she calls it and she was able to pull it off thanks to help with a grant from the San Diego Black Chamber of Commerce. At a time she said when people are supporting more black owned businesses amid the fight for racial injustice, "I’m glad people are looking to support black owned businesses. Sometimes we have a lot more challenges, our population isn’t so big in San Diego." And in the middle of a global pandemic, Hendon said, "I’ve lost family members with COVID this year and I thought finding our joy is important so it brings me joy, and I hope to bring joy to others."She said there was no better time than now to create the business of her dreams, "I thought if we could bring a little bit of that dream to them and bring them a nice environment then it’d make their day a little special."She received her Masters in Business Administration last year and said everything she's learned and accomplished has helped make this business happen. "Resilience, following through and executive management. I use all my skill sets, it all comes in handy. I even sew, I even used to sew in undergrad so it all comes in handy."Couples are allowed up to 8 guests, all social distanced and Hendon said you can do it all from her backyard under 0. 1837
