The outcome of the presidential election remained in doubt one day after polls closed throughout the United States.As of Wednesday afternoon, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden had a slight advantage over President Donald Trump in electoral college votes, but several key swing states had yet to be called.A candidate needs 270 electoral college votes in order to claim the presidency. As of Wednesday afternoon, Biden had 248 Electoral College votes to Trump's 214.Just as it did in 2016, the outcome of the race will likely hinge on the results of three states — Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania. As of Wednesday afternoon, the race in Michigan and Pennsylvania is too close to call. The Associated Press projects Biden will win Wisconsin, and its 10 electoral votes. Michigan (16 electoral votes) appears poised to offer close to a final count in the hours ahead. However, officials in Pennsylvania have cautioned that due to a high volume of mail-in votes, it may take several days to determine a winner of their 20 electoral votes.In 2016, Trump won Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin by about 100,000 combined votes.During a virtual press conference on Wednesday, the state's chief election official, Meagan Wolfe, said that nearly all jurisdictions have posted initial vote counts. That count will remain unofficial until the election is certified on Dec. 1.Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien said in a statement Wednesday that the President plans to request a recount in Wisconsin.According to Wisconsin law, a candidate can request a recount if the margin of victory is within 1%. The Justice Department is expected to make the James Comey memos available to Congress on Thursday, according to a source with knowledge of the matter.The fired FBI director wrote the memos memorializing his conversations with President Donald Trump.It was not immediately whether the memos would be provided in redacted form, unredacted in a classified setting, or some combination.CNN reported Wednesday that House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte might issue a subpoena to the Justice Department demanding the memos this week.The move would escalate a feud between the Justice Department and the three GOP chairmen -- Goodlatte, House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes and House Oversight Chairman Trey Gowdy -- who have been demanding access to the Comey memos and other records from the Justice Department as part of their investigation into the FBI's handling of the Clinton email inquiry in 2016.Gowdy told CNN on Wednesday that there's nothing in the memos that should prevent the Justice Department from providing them to Congress. The owner of a?dog that was stolen Saturday evening from a Petco in Palm Beach Gardens was reunited with her pet Tuesday morning.The dog's owner, Tara Harris, said police called her in the middle of the night to say they found her pet Maltese-mix named Teddy. Harris arrived at the Palm Beach Gardens police station at about 5 a.m. local time to pickup Teddy, who is 11-years-old, blind and diabetic.Palm Beach Gardens police said they arrested Heather Ryan, 48, who had the dog in her possession. Circumstances of the arrest have not been released by police. However, police said Ryan was arrested near Legacy Place off PGA Boulevard and charged with grand theft.Harris wanted to thank police and the public for their help reuniting her with Teddy.“I’ll never be able to put into words how unbelievably amazing it was (to be reunited with Teddy)," Harris said. "I can’t express into words how happy I am to have him back in my arms with my family."The dog, which lost 1.2 pounds in three days, was taken to a veterinarian to be evaluated. Teddy was slightly dehydrated when he was found overnight and is now on an IV since his blood sugar levels were high.   1247

The Netflix series "13 Reasons Why" increased the suicide risk of suicidal teens treated in a psychiatric emergency department, according to a University of Michigan study.Upon release, the show received backlash for its depiction of suicide, as some critics said it glorified those who took their own lives. In addition, another study showed that the show was tied to a rise in online searches about suicide.“This show has been a real phenomenon, especially among teenagers,” Victor Hong, M.D., medical director of psychiatric emergency services at Michigan Medicine, said in a release. “Its depiction of teen suicide has raised great concern among parents, health providers and educators.” Half of the 87 youths, mostly teens ages 13 to 17, who participated in the survey between 2017 and 2018 had watched at least one episode of the show. Among the 43 who watched it, about half said it heightened their suicide risk.“Our study doesn’t confirm that the show is increasing suicide risk, but it confirms that we should definitely be concerned about its impact on impressionable and vulnerable youth,” Hong said.According to the study, very few parents of those in the sample had watched the series themselves and some were not even aware that their child had watched it. “The data from our sample of teens demonstrated that kids who were at high risk of suicide did not reach out to adults,” Hong said. “They mostly watched the show alone or talked to friends, but they weren’t talking to parents, teachers or school counselors.For more information on the study, click here. 1613
