If you’re among the 40 million people online looking for love, you know it can be tough finding the perfect match. It might be your fault, but one little change could send you down the aisle. The problem? You may be dating out of your league. A new study found that users who messaged people out of their league typically waited a lot longer to get a reply back or even get a reply at all. "A lot of people try to date out of their league, and they use that terminology," says Chief love officer Michelle Frankel, with New York City Matchmaking. "But it may not result in the end relationship they are looking for; but it might not even be what they perceive it to be."  According to Urban Dictionary, dating out of your league simply means you’ve got no shot. However, Frankel says that’s not true all the time. For example, look at Christie Brinkley and Billy Joel, back in the 1980's.Frankel says dating up like Billy Joel did can work, but it can’t be based on looks alone. “Look what he brought to the table," explains Frankel. In a fleeting moment, life can change dramatically. Two summers ago, Fred Quin was celebrating the 4th of July at his family’s lake cottage near Grand Rapids, Michigan. They loaded up the boat and headed to the sand bar.“I decided to go off the front of the boat, and that’s when it gets fuzzy,” Quin siad.Quin's girlfriend, Meghan Anderson, noticed Fred was acting strangely. She walked over to him and grabbed his shoulder.  He didn’t move.The group grabbed a raft, put it under Fred, called 911 and floated him to shore.  They were met by an ambulance.Within four hours, Fred was in surgery.  He'd shattered his C-6 vertebrae, causing his body to become motionless. "The surgery was to remove those pieces, put a donor bone in, put a plate in the front side, and on the back side put two rods going down my spine. And they fused my C-5 to C-7 vertebras," Quin said.The trauma doctor told Fred he would never walk again, and he would be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.“It was devastating,” Anderson said.Quin wasn't giving up on his hope to walk someday, so he spent every day in therapy. With Anderson always by his side and after months of rehab, there was a sign of progress. Eventually, he began to regain feeling in his leg.“My first moment was my big toe on my left foot,” Quin said.Quin moved back home and started intense workouts at Detroit Medical Center's Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan (RIM).“Fred’s determination is what makes you make it enjoyable to come to work,” RIM Physical Therapist Kyle Weishaupt said.They have been putting Fred in a wearable motorized machine that helps increase strength and endurance during workouts.“With the robot, the Exoskeleton, and me, we can get him up, and we can do over 1,000 steps in one session,” Weishaupt said.As the steps progressed, so did Quin and Anderson’s relationship. On their eight-year dating anniversary, they returned to the water for a pontoon ride, and Quin proposed.“The next goal is to walk down the aisle with Meghan with just with one crutch,” he said.On May 12, Meghan became Fred’s bride, and he accomplished his biggest goal.He walked down the aisle on his wedding day — fulfilling his dream and sharing his special day with family and friends. “Whether it’s exactly how we wanted it to happen or not, that’s not what matters. It's that we’re doing it together, and we’re happy," Meghan Quin said. After the honeymoon, the Quins plan on getting back to their life and setting new goals for their future. If you receive a call from an unfamiliar number informing you that you've missed jury duty and could be sent to jail if you don't pay a fine, be wary. The call could be a hoax.The scam has claimed a number of victims in the Baltimore area.At least one caller identified himself as a Lieutenant Steven Harris with the Baltimore County Sheriff's office. “They claimed that I had failed to show up, obey a summons in a criminal case, and that the judge had issued a bench warrant for my arrest. And they wanted me to come in right away and straighten it out or they would have to come get me,” said Professor Rena Steinzor who teaches at the University of Maryland Carey Law School.The caller gave the address of the Towson courthouse and instructed her to meet him there with money in hand.“He wanted ,868 in fines for my failure to appear and said I would get the money right back,” said Steinzor.When she explained she couldn't get down to her bank in Capitol Hill and back before the courthouse closed, he told her to purchase a MoneyPak from a CVS or office supply store. The form of payment was a red flag that alerted Steinzor to the fraud.“I think it's stupid to target somebody who's familiar with the criminal justice system and knows that you don't go to CVS and put money on a card if you have to pay a fine in court,” Steinzor said.A co-worker then called the Sheriff's Office who told her it was a trick.Steinzor didn't pay but there are many potential victims. The scheme stretches into areas around the state.Harford, Howard, Cecil, and Frederick counties have all reported similar scams recently. In Frederick County the caller gave the name of a police officer who is actively on the force. They convinced a victim to stay on the phone. The scammer didn't have an accent, they provided real addresses, and they threatened the victim with arrest.“I think the threat that they're going to come and get you is very disconcerting. I mean, I will tell you, I made it all the way to my car,” said Steinzor.The Baltimore County Sheriff said the fraudsster was after the code on the MoneyPak. He would've asked for the code and never appeared at the courthouse.They also said the person in question may be from another country. When police went to investigate, the number Steinzor provided was disconnected.Steinzor wanted to share her story because the scam can be very believable. When she initially called the number, the voicemail made it seem like it was the Sheriff's Office. They also knew where she worked.If you get one of these calls and you're not sure, police advise you to hang up and call the agency's official number on their website to verify.You could be fined or face jail time for failing to appear for jury service, however, courts do not call people to notify them about a bench warrant, nor do they instruct them to bring a “bond voucher” with them to the court.For more information on the scam, click here.  2992
