SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 40-year-old man was shot and wounded while riding his bicycle early Saturday morning in Logan Heights.The shooting was reported at 1:20 a.m. in the 2900 block of Marcy Avenue, said San Diego police Sgt. Michael Tansey.The victim was riding his bicycle on the sidewalk westbound on Marcy Avenue when someone inside a black Jeep Cherokee that was parked along the north side of the street exited the passenger side and fired several rounds at the victim, Tansey said.The bicyclist was struck twice by the gunfire and fled on his bicycle. He rode into a fast food restaurant in the area of 29th Street and National Avenue, where he was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening wounds, Tansey said.The victim sustained a gunshot wound to his buttocks and left lower leg, Tansey said.The gunman was described as Hispanic, in is mid 20s, wearing a black shirt and dark pants, according to Tansey. 935

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 22-year-old motorcyclist was hospitalized in critical condition this morning with injuries he sustained in a crash with a Toyota Rav4 in Mira Mesa.The man was riding northbound on Camino Ruiz at Marauder Way at 10:30 p.m. Friday when he broadsided the Rav4, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department, who added one driver ran a red light, but it was unclear which one.The motorcyclist sustained multiple fractures and was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Heims said.The driver of the Toyota was not hurt. 569

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A construction project at the Edward J. Schwartz Federal Office Building in downtown San Diego will result in a 21-month closure of a portion of Front Street, beginning Saturday.According to the U.S. General Services Administration, a two-block stretch of Front Street, between Broadway and West F Street, will be affected by the construction project, which is expected to last until June 2021. Pedestrian and vehicle traffic will be detoured around the project area.The project will reinforce and enhance the Front Street underpass beneath the Schwartz Federal Building. The project is designed to increase safety for the building's occupants as well as pedestrians and motorists, according to the GSA.The Federal Building's existing framing at the underpass will be reinforced with new steel beams, concrete paneling and column support structures, federal officials said.Signs will be in place on Interstate 5 to alert motorists to the closure as they enter downtown. The easternmost lane of Front Street between Broadway and E Street will provide access to the underground parking garage at 101 West Broadway and for turning city buses.Construction work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. except on weekends and holidays.The roadwork will be completed first, followed by pedestrian walkways with full-height walls to separate the road from walkways, according to the GSA."One of our strategic goals is better management of federal real estate and this GSA construction project allows for that while also being a catalyst for downtown revitalization," said GSA Regional Administrator Tom Scott. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 28-year-old motorcyclist who led police on a pursuit through the Pacific Beach area of San Diego was hospitalized this morning with a life-threatening injury after crashing into another vehicle.The motorcyclist failed to yield to officers near the intersection of Garnet Avenue and Jewell Street about 11:10 p.m. Friday, and led officers southbound on Jewell Street, then westbound on Grand Avenue, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.At the intersection of Grand Avenue and Fanuel Street, the motorcyclist split lanes between stopped vehicles and entered the intersection on a red light and broadsided a 2019 Toyota Prius going southbound on Fanuel Street, Heims said.The rider sustained a life-threatening brain bleed that required immediate surgery. The 62-year-old driver of the Prius and his passengers were not hurt, Heims said.The name of the suspect was not disclosed. 937
