LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Cereal lovers may want to take a good look at the expiration dates on their groceries after this story.A Lakewood, Colorado family bought a box of Quaker 100% Natural Granola cereal from a Littleton Walmart on Monday. It was the Quaker cereal with oats, honey and raisins.It wasn’t until the Carelse’s sat down for a serving that any of them realized something was terribly wrong.“It looks like February 22, 1997,” Anthea Carelse said, pointing to the box’s printed “best by” date. (KGTV) — La Mesa's police chief said the incident where a woman was shot in the head with a bean bag round during last weekend's protest is under investigation.LMPD Chief Walt Vasquez said during a press conference that the officer involved has been identified and that the incident was being investigated.Mayor Mark Arapostathis said another press conference would be held to follow up on the investigation. "The incident is under review and will be addressed at a future press conference. She and hundreds of other people were protesting police violence and the death of George Floyd.Furcron's son, Ahmed, said after the press conference that the department's response was not enough. "We want to know what's going on. My mom is 59-years-old. She didn't break any laws. She wasn't being violent or nothing. We want answers. She was shot between the eyes. He added that officers are trained to aim towards a person's torso when using bean bag rounds.Though when asked why no officers rushed to Furcron's aid, Vasquez said officers did not make it to the area in time."At the time of the incident, we were engaged in an unlawful assembly and it was a riotous situation. So when the information came out at that time ... to see exactly what happened and with our opportunity to get to her. LAKE ALFRED, Fla. -- A Polk County, Florida family is outraged after they say their 7-year-old was forced to scrub school floors with a toothbrush as punishment.The elementary student reportedly misbehaved last week at Lake Alfred Elementary, when her teacher sent the student next door for "corrective action."According to the family, the 7-year-old was told to scrub the floors with a toothbrush.They also claim teachers told her to clean the entire floor, and when she was done she was told to then clean the counters.Family members say she was forced to do this throughout the day and was not able to participate in regular classroom activities. The family says they were not made aware of the misbehavior or the punishment their daughter received. (KGTV) - A strip mall that had fallen into disrepair and attracted squatters has been placed into receivership, according to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.Located on the 7400 Block of Broadway, the property consisted of several buildings that had closed about a year ago after the city busted an illegal marijuana dispensary.But that’s when the real problems began.“Lots of police calls, criminal activities and police responses,” said Richardson Griswold, who was appointed as the receiver by a superior court judge on Friday.It came after the City of Lemon Grove had been granted a judgment against the owners of the property. The judgment required that the owners clean it up and properly secure it, but that was never completed.When the receiver arrived Friday afternoon, the Sheriff’s Department was called in to remove six people who had been living inside. One of them was found hiding in the attic. Four were taken into custody on existing warrants.Inside, Griswold said there was “heaps of trash, clothing, and no plumbing, so there was the smell of human feces and human urine.”He had already hired a crew to start clearing out the buildings and board up the access points. LEMON GROVE (CNS) - A man was jailed for stealing a deputy's patrol car at the Lemon Grove Patrol Station, sheriff's officials said Sunday. Matthew Brian Porter, 44, was arrested Saturday evening and booked into the San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of evading deputies, theft of an emergency vehicle and fleeing police on a highway in the wrong direction, all felonies, according to jail records. At about 9 p.m., a deputy at the Lemon Grove Patrol Station was unloading his patrol car at the end of his shift, according to Lt. Mike Rand of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. A man then got into the deputy's patrol car and drove away. Deputies spotted the vehicle leaving the station and began a pursuit. But they lost sight of it as it drove eastbound on Broadway. A resident called 911 to report the abandoned patrol car in the 3500 block of Grove Street. Deputies located the vehicle and detained Porter, who allegedly admitted to stealing the patrol car. Porter's bail on the evading charge was set at ,000. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday. 1080
